Nice rod series
July 29, 2022
Very nice rod, matched with an avet mxl raptor, ran into some yellow tail and most of the fish I hooked were 15-20lbs so they didn't really taxe the rod or reel.
Upgraded all my rods and reels to PCH series and avet reels.
Pros
  • Nice looking, tough
Cons
  • Nice looking. Afraid to scratch them

NICE!

Exactly what I've come to expect from Okuma. Nice components, nice execution, blank feels responsive. It is a little heavier than I expected thickness wise, but, I like it.

Bought this rod for local Yellowtail and it is amazing. The parabolic bend takes so much strain off your back and for price it can't be beat.

PCH-C-M01 7.0 12-25lb Rod
December 4, 2019
Very lightweight with a lot of backbone. Bottom fishing for rockfish and lingcod in 200 to 300 ft with Okuma Cavalla 2 speed 16 Narrow is as light as you can get. Plenty sensitive and
again the backbone is there to lift doubleheader 6 lb rockfish over the rail with no strain. Really enjoy the sensitivity matched with the overall strength. Boasts additional longitudinal strength and it is certainly there. The extra diamond external wrap ensures non collapsing rod bend throughout. Inspires confidence. Very comfortable outfit. Featherweight but its all I need.
Have no doubt it can handle yellowtail if need be. Like a Mazda Miata, light, fun, able and responsive.

Excellent rod
June 7, 2019
Just got back from a bluefin trip. I used the pch xxx boat rod and a makira 15T. Its an incredible set up and I landed a 113 lb fish. To be very honest the rod was to stiff for this size fish and the reel was a little to far forward do to a long butt. I was going back and forth from belt to rail. I think if I used the 1x it would have put more pressure on the fish. Also, I pulled a hook with a J, stiff rods and braid dont mesh. Now that said the rod is incedible and a beast for the money. Just need to used it on bigger fish. I'm cutting my butt down a little to, just personal preference. Since the rod wouldnt bend I bit could bend my body back, always hunched over, a major broom stick. Can't imagine the 4x?

Great rod for the price
April 30, 2019
This is just a very solidly built rod for the price. Lighter than the traditional West Coast rods I've fished with, but still casts well for an all-graphite rod. The high-quality Alps and Fuji components are a huge plus.
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Tons of backbone
  • Great Alps and Fuji components
Cons
  • All graphite construction, so it doesn't load as well on the cast as a composite rod.

A GAME CHANGER in ROD INDUSTRY, The BEST BANG for the BUCK Rod!
March 25, 2019
For the Components and Technology put into this Rod resulted in a High Performance Rod with an Incredible Price Point!

Felt like and Perform close to a United Composite rod Minus the Pricey Tag. Lighter than a Daiwa Proteus Rod and Way Cheaper than a Phenix Rod.

Another Winner from OKUMA like their MAKAIRA Reels!

So if you are not up to the UC Rod, I highly recommend the PCH over the other Brand.

Pros
  • Lightweight, Parabolic Bend with Strong Backbone, Components and Technology at a Reasonable Price Point...
Cons
  • Its dubbed as “ A Poor Man’s United Composite Rod” :-)

Very well made budget rod
December 31, 2018
Bought this rod for YT and Rock fishing.
Very well made for under $200 price range.
Pros
  • Attractive design
  • Alps Aluminum reel seat
  • X-wrapped grips
Cons
  • Rail grip is short
  • Rod is very stiff
  • (if you are not a fan of stiff rod, I will go with either Daiwa Proteus or Phenix Axis)
  • Rod itself is very scratchable (will have lots of scuffs)

PCH custom is the SoCal Rod.
September 23, 2018
The PCH custom is an awesome rod at a great price. The materials, construction, components, and finish of this rod is something you would see in a rod at twice the price. I used my PCH 8ft Heavy to fly line bait, bottom fish and cast surface jigs. It really handled it all very well. It is also very light weight and has a ton of back bone for fighting bonitas and yellowtail. Its tip is also sensitive and I could feel and see the tip bounce as bottom fish would be nibbling or striking my bait and jigs.
Pros
  • Technology put into this rod is amazing.
  • Materials, construction, components are top notch.
  • Tons of backbone for fighting fishing.
  • super light weight and doesn't wear you out while casting.
  • 8ft rod can cast a country mile.
  • Sensitive tip of feeling strikes.
  • Can cast everything from 60g coltsnipers, 200g butterfly jigs, Tady 45's without no problem.
Cons
  • Heavy models don't like cast very light jigs or very small sardines. I suggested using jigs that weigh 60g and up.

Which 9ft model has the best whip or Rod load up for throwing surface irons, Mega baits and swimbaits to Calicos, cudas, YT  and even Tuna up to 100lbs.  Need a all purpose jig stick that can handle any situation on the So Cal Coast.  Thank you.   Please help
1 Answer
The medium heavy rod would have more of a whippy feel if loaded correctly with the proper lure weight. The heavy would be to stout of a rod.

How do you the 80-130 would work for good sharks off the beach?

The Okuma PCH-C-741XXXH PCH Custom Series Conventional Rod would be great for your fishing application. However since it's currently sold out I would also recommend a Penn ALLBW50100C60RS Ally Conventional Boat Rod. This is also rated for 50-100lb line and would be ideal to fish for sharks off the beach. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-allbw50100c60rs-ally-boat-rod-conventional.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. I would recommend a St. Croix MSWC70HF Mojo Salt Conventional Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-mswc70hf-mojo-salt-conventional-rod.html This rod would pair nicely with your Shimano Torium 20 for bottom fishing applications.
