The rod feels very sturdy--the ferrules fit nicely and the guides seem very strong. The action of the rod seems exactly as described--not too stiff for the heavy model.
I love the dark blue color of the rod as well.
I cannot wait to use this rod in Cabo in July! I will post an update after my trip. I will be Targeting Roosterfish from the beach--casting large poppers and a few sub-surface jigs in the 2-3oz range.

Rod case had a stuck zipper but Tackle Direct's customer service was excellent to work with and fast. If you are looking for a quality travel rod, the Okuma Nomad is a candidate.
- On sale for 119. the rod comes with the travel case. 34" long. can use as a carry on.
- none yet
I will be repeatedly casting 2-3oz lures with this rod, so require something that is not too heavy and will cast long distances. I also need good line capacity, high retrieve rate and smooth/solid drag, since targeting Roosterfish. I will probably be using 30# braid with a 50# fluro leader.
I think I've narrowed it down to these reels: Diawa BGMQ600D; Quantum Cabo PT 50SZ; Diawa Ballistic BLSLT6000D; Penn Spinfisher VI Long Cast 5500; Shimano Thunnus Ci4 TU6000CI4.
What do you recommend (even if not on this list)? The Thunnus is definitely at the very top of my price point.
Thank you
I would recommend one of these three, the Daiwa BGMQ6000D-H BG MQ Spinning Reel good drag; 26.4lb, and good line capacity and fairly light with a 5.7:1 ratio. Shimano STC5000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel  this reel is the lightest at 9.3oz and offers a little less drag at 24.3lbs and a little less line capacity but that is made up for in its ratio of 6.2:1. The last one is the Penn Spinfisher VI SSVI6500 Spinning Reel plenty of line on this one 485yds at 30lb, a little heavier than the other two at 22.3oz, but does offer the most drag at 30lbs and a good ratio at 5.6:1. Remember that when rooster fishing you want as fast a retrieve as possible while also keeping in mind trying to keep it fairly light and able to fight the fish effectively. The long cats model of the SpinFisher has just too low of a retrieve rate to be effective for roosterfish.Â
