My youngest son is off to Kansas State University so I got him a rod he can transport easily. This is a quality rod and he's already caught numerous largemouth bass at the local lake, so it's all broken in for Kansas.

One of the nicest high-quality spinning rods of use. Love the travel capabilities and the case.. Has not come apart during the fight, cast, or riding in the rod holder. Performs as good as a single piece rod.

This rod is excellent for the traveling angler. I recently purchased one for my brother and one for my son. Mine is paired with a size 4000 reel and has caught fish in Aruba, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Florida, Alabama etc etc etc. I have caught bluefish, snook, tarpon, amberjack and many more. It is a solid buy!
Pros
  • Carry case with space to fit a reel
  • Fits in an airplane's overhead storage
  • light
  • Solid reel seat.
  • 2 tips.
Cons
  • None

Nice rod, bit lighter than expected
February 3, 2015
Very nice looking rod, great finish. Nice reel seat. The 3pc is an awesome feature, and with these ferrule connections, it feels close enough to a one-piece. Definitely not worse than a 2pc. So, great for travelling.
The rod M-MH is a bit lighter than I was expecting. Visually, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the 2 tips. Although, there is only a few pounds difference, I was hoping/expecting a bigger difference.
Pros
  • nice finish
  • nice reel seat components
  • 3 pc great
  • good connections
  • sensitive enough tip for lure action
Cons
  • not much difference between 2 tips
  • lighter than expected

What size real is recommended for NTi-70M-MH?  There seems to be conflicting suggestions in the other responses to questions.
1 Answer
Hi Mike, Depending on your fishing application, A general recommendation is from a 3000-4000 size. I would recommend a Shimano Stradic 4000 XGFL. Model: ST4000XGFL; TD Code: SHM-3810. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-st4000xgfl-stradic-fl-spinning-reel.html. This would pair great with the Okuma NTi-S-703M-MH Nomad Inshore Travel Spinning Rod and be a well balanced setup. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

The NTi-S-703M-MH and the NT-S-703M-MH appear very similar other than the handle. What are the difference between the generic spinning rod and the inshore labeled rod?
1 Answer
The NTi rod is an inshore travel rod where as the NT rod is more of a boat rod. The NTi Inshore rod has a mono rating of 10-17 lb test/ braided line rating of 12-20 lb test. The NT rod has a mono rating of 15-30 lb test/ braided line rating of 20-60 lb test. The Inshore rod has 6 + the tip guides, the NT rod has 5 + the tip. The lengths of the fore grip and rear grip are different between the two rods also. The NTi Inshore is a lighter application rod than the NT.

For Sivler salmon/sockeye salmon fishing using an Avet reel what would you suggest for a travel rod? And a case to take on the plane or as baggage
1 Answer
These are the spinning models, you will want to go with one of the conventional models if you plan on pairing it with an Avet. I'd suggest the SX or SXJ. As far as taking this as a carry-on I would strongly advise contacting the airline that you will be flying about their sizing rules for carry-ons.

Is this rod a good fit for bridge fishing in the Florida keys? Is the tip strong enough to reel up a moderate size fish ? Maximum lure weight? Any travel spinning rods better suited for bridge fishing?
1 Answer
For the fishing you are looking to do with the rod I would recommend updating to the Okuma NT-S-703M-MH Nomad Travel Spinning Rod it will handle pulling fish up better and it will handle a heavier ounce weight, around 4 or 5 ounces. http://www.tackledirect.com/okuma-nt-s-703m-mh-nomad-travel-spinning-rod.html

Is the Penn Spinfisher V 5500/6500 too big for this spinning rod?
1 Answer
The 5500 would be on the bigger end of reels that should be on this rod. The 4500SSV would be the better fit for this rod. If you do need a rod for the 6500ssv check out the Nomad Express travel http://www.tackledirect.com/okuma-nomad-xpress-travel-spinning-boat-rods.html Please feel free to contact one of our product specialists if you have any further questions. I want to pair this with a Penn Battle2 spinning reel. What size would match best? I was thinking 4000 for the inshore M-MH, and the 5000 for the Boat rod L-ML? Thx!
1 Answer
Switch those around and you should be fine. The 4000 for the light to medium light and the 5000 for medium to medium heavy.
