I use it for rock cod/ling cod. This thing is super smooth and the two speed works freakin great.
The captain on the boat tried it out and was impressed. I might buy my 2nd one. 65lb braid on it with a 30lb ltop shot, flawless. Gonna take it for yellow tail here in a couple of weeks.
Pros
  • 1. Light
  • 2. Easy to handle
  • 3. Compact and powerful
  • 4. Cast like a champ
  • 5. Easy dual gear transfer
Cons
  • None yet

My Metaloid 12 lasted exactly: one 12# bluefish, one 35# bluefin tuna. On the next fish (another small BFT) the anti reverse went busting up my knuckles. The gearing in this reel is unable to handle fish with any ability to make a strong run. Would NOT advise fishing for pelagic species with this reel.

I would give it 5 starts but I don't have enough time with it. Hook a handful of salmon so far. this reel is very smooth and has a ton of stopping power. I'm looking to get the standard 5 to outfit another rod.

Just picked one up for use as a reel to catch everything from ocean fluke to Cod. We squeezed on 300 yards of 40lb braid with some mono backing. This reel matches the specs of an SX Raptor at about $150 less if you go for the 2 speed! Can't wait to try it.
Pros
  • Strong drag
  • Nice looking reel
  • Comfortable handle
  • Lightweight

How many pounds of drag can be applied with this reel? Would this be a good reel for vertical jigging 7 oz jigs in 200 feet of water?

The Metaloid is rated for up to 24# of drag. It should work out very well for your application.
