Okuma CSX-S-1102MH Cedros Surf Rod
June 2, 2022
To be honest of my purchase of this product is not a good one. This Rod item was described as a 30-50 blank and what they sent me was a rod that read was 30-50 braided line, not the 30-50 blank. This rod was way over rated as a Medium Heavy rod because it is only what looks and feels more like a 12- 25.Sorry folks but it is what it is,a too high cost rod and not what you think it is.As a surf rod it is way off the measure!
Pros
  • "Looks"
Cons
  • Not a 30-50 blank at all,but a alternative that is too light to be sold as a 30-50.

Great fishing rod so far
January 21, 2022
I haven't had the rod for long yet, but I can already report that the Okuma Cedros surf rod I ordered handles better than any of the other spinning rods I have ever used. Finding a 2-piece surf rod with the right combination of length, balance, and action has been tough, but I am satisfied with what Okuma put into this rod at this price. I can't report on how this rod compares to other $150-200 rods, but it has been a substantial upgrade over my $70-110 rods in terms of casting distance and accuracy. I like the design of the reel seat--it accommodates has space to accommodate different sized reel feet, and the full-length reel-foot groove should also provide an escape for sand that gets into the threads of the reel seat.
Pros
  • Lightweight, casts effortlessly, the reel seat accommodates a range of reel sizes.
Cons
  • Nothing yet, but like most Carbon fiber rods, the tip is stiff, so it might crack if one tries to cast a 3 or 4 oz sinker.

broke on the 2nd cast

long drive to la bay in the baja to have this rod snap on the 2nd cast. using a 2 ounce lure and there was no reason for what happened. worse it was the only surf rod i took down so a real bummer while friends were casting out where i couldnt. really want it replaced.

This rod is a blast to fish
December 3, 2019
I use this rod (11ft) in the North Carolina surf for casting and also soaking light baits depending on the circumstances. The action on this rod is great. Hooking up on slot size black and red drum is so much fun. Still waiting to test it against larger but it seems like it will handle it.

It is so light, I can throw it all day. Also, it is very sensitive where I feel the slightest of bites. I wouldn?€™t describe it as a one rod that does it all but I am sure glad I added it to my collection and I use it frequently. Owned for about a year and love this rod.
Pros
  • Very light - Great action - Fun to fish - Looks awesome
Cons
  • It does seem delicate - I would not want to drop it while fishing on a jetty...

Quality Rod

Overall great rod. Use my Van Staal on it. Light weight and just rigid enough. It weighs only 1 pound so my set-up is like holding air. The 5 oz weight feels heavier on the line then the rod itself.

forward guides to small
March 11, 2017
Over all quality was good, however the front guide, nearest the reel seat is too small, causing choke point for casting. I returned this item and bought Phenix "megalodon"
Pros
  • Well made
Cons
  • need to rethink guide system

Can Not Beat This Rod !!!
September 4, 2015
This is one of the best rods I've found for surf fishing. It is light weight yet has plenty of power. All components are top notch quality. It is so lightweight I can cast all day compared to my big water ugly stick. Buy it you will not be disappointed.
Pros
  • Absolutely beautiful rod and compact.
Cons
  • Like the other review, everyone wants to pick it up and handle it.

great rod for the money
September 19, 2014
This rod looks beautiful with all the components that is used, from the ALPS guides to the Pac Bay reel seat. It is super light for being a 11' rod. I can cast with this rod all day, just make sure to match it up with a light surf reel. An offshore reel may be too heavy to be holding it up with the rod and flinging your bait beyond the sand bar. That being said, I have not had a chance to hook a monster fish from the surf yet so I can't review it's fighting power when pulling in a fish over sand bars and through the surf.

take a look, dnt cross it off your list yet

I ordered this rod with out seeing how it felt, I have the same model rod in 9ft MH so I based my decision on how the 9ft felt , I am very happy with this rod, the first time out hooked and landed a 28 inch blue fish maybe 15lbs or so, poor blue fish he thought he would get away but no, the rod stood up to the fight with ease even being a M action rod. very happy with the rod, I like the medium action depending on what lure i'm using I think this helped contributed to the catch the action when bouncing the lure, also caught 2 more blues smaller ones the same trip. one important factor I feel is getting the right reel, matched up with the rod, I matched this rod up with a Battle 5000, 30lbs Power Pro braid, at times I casting into the wind to work the rocks, not one or even a small wind knot that made my night even better.
Pros
  • light, action, feel

Give it a look

this is the first lets say real surf casting I have purchased, I always have went to some sporting goods store and bought one of the combos usually for a hundred bucks, but it was time to step up and take this fishing a little more serious. I am very happy and really like this pole, I purchased the 9ft MH model. I use it for primarily jetty fishing, the biggest difference I see in this pole than the others I have bought is, I can keep on casting with out getting tired because the others poles I have had are a little bit heavy. and the reels were pretty heavy also. I stepped up my reel choices from basic to a spin fisher V 5500 for this pole. I think it is a good match. one thing I noticed was when a fish strikes you know it and you feel it. dnt buy it for it sharp looks buy it because to me it is an awesome pole, I didn't buy this online, I picked up directly at the store, it was between a Tsunami Airwave or Okuma Cedros CSX, this one won me, the pole just felt better
Pros
  • good feel, light, you feel every strike, and it just looks good

The penn Slammer III 6500 would pair up great with the cedros surf rod and the Cedros surf is a 50/50 split

Will this rod pair with an Okums TSA-60 Tri Rex Arena reel? I normally use 30# powerpro line too.
1 Answer
This rod should pair well with the reel mentioned. The reel should have plenty of spool capacity to allow for nice long casts with this rod

Is this a casting rod? If so, how would it match up with a Daiwa Lexa 400 for targeting stripers in dams/spillways
1 Answer
It is a spinning rod so it won't work with that reel.
