Great reel, for the money. It has held up well in salt water. I would want to battle a monster fish with it, but good overall reel.
Pros
  • No corrosion, yet.
Cons
  • No muscle. Flexes under stress.

A great reel that stands up to heavy use.

I bought my Okuma Classic CLX Levelwind reels (2) for fishing the St Claire River. One year in fishing walleyes in extremely fast current with 2 lb weights and 50 lb line test; these reels perform like the day I bought them. Great!

Always room for improvement, 4 Stars. Haven't found the reel that removes bird's nests due to my poor casting technique.
Pros
  • Great value!
Cons
  • None, so far.

I've used these Okuma levelwind reels for many years and they are good inshore reels and are very forgiving for novice fisherman.

Good Striper Reel
January 15, 2016
I have 4 of these that I use for inland lake striper fishing. They've held up well and have had no complaints about them. I've even used them in salt water for near shore wreck fishing and trolling for Spanish.
Pros
  • -Good entry level reel for stripers and similar sized fish
Cons
  • -Low line capacity

I'm thinking of this reel with a RAMBW2040C70LB PEN-1077 rod for fluking in teh south shore of Long Island - mostly coastal ocan - 50-80 feet. Jigging, but also standard sinker/fluke rig/gulp setup. I want to get 6 and standardize the rods on a new boat, without breaking the bank on rods/reels Thoughts?

The Okuma CLX-450La Classic CLX Levelwind Reel paired with a Tsunami TSTBC-J601MH or Tsunami TSTBC-J601XH depending on how many oz you use would be a good setup for the style of fishing your doing and it will not break the bank.
