Great if you reel with your let hand
October 10, 2018
Bought the 55s for inshore spinning. Very nice construction with good drag, and casts well. I am a lefty and reel with my right hand, and to put the handle on the right side you must tighten it clockwise, so when you are reeling hard the handle starts to come off. I try to tighten it down as much as possible without breaking it, but would not buy one again for this reason. But for you righties, go for it.
Pros
  • Quality, looks, holds lots of line.
Cons
  • Hope I don't hook anything big, I'll never land it unless I hold the rod in my right hand and reel with my left, which sux.

Great reel drag to weight ratio is perfect for the offshore game as you will see

My first fish on this new Okuma CJ-80-S Cedros reel paired with the new Okuma CJ-S-601MA rod was this impressive 50 plus pound lemon fish we caught while night fishing near an oil rig in the Gulf Of Mexico off the Louisiana coast.

What a great first fish memory for this rod n reel combo!
Pros
  • This reel gave enough drag for the fish to make its run and still bring it back in when needed during the fight. This Okuma rod n reel combination with the CJS601MA is a great balance for any offshore recreational angler.
Cons
  • None

I was looking for a spin reel with power and fast retrieve, primarily for jigging Blackfish. With 24 lbs of Drag and a 6+ gear ratio this reel fits the bill. I was also pleasantly surprised by the smooth drag and the quality . Just a matter of time before the cost of this reel catches up with its performance.
Pros
  • Smooth . Well built. Great value for the price.
Cons
  • None yet

okuma CJ-65 cedros spinning reel
October 25, 2015
As the owner of several Okuma spinning reels, this is one of the smoothest of all and has been able to handle all of the jigging and bottom fishing off of my boat here in Hawaii.

A solid performer

I just realized that it appears TD no longer carries the Cedros baitfeeder reel. Checked Okuma's website and did not see it there either. Anyhow, I do not have this reel but I do have 2 of the 55 Cedros baitfeeders. I needed to leave a review somewhere to allow others to know that this is a great reel. The reels perform flawless under hook up whether I use the baitfeeder feature or not. I absolutely love the big blue anodized aluminum wheel for a handle. Super smooth all the way around. Spooled both of mine up with 300 yards of blue 40 lb. Power Pro super slick. This is a solid performer
Pros
  • Heavy duty, super smooth, great casting
Cons
  • None here!!!

Solid Reel, Fair Price
July 17, 2012
I've used similarly priced reels from more well known brands such as Shimano and Penn. This reel is as good as any of them. I really like the handle for jigging as it prevents blistering, which is a problem for me with rubber grips. It's handled plenty of AJ, Snapper and Mahi and performed perfectly. Plenty of drag and line capacity and very light and manageable. Plus it looks really cool, (especially with blue PowerPro).

Would recommend to anyone.
Pros
  • Weight, Drag Strength, Handle, Looks
Cons
  • Nothing

this left or right I order 2 reel I just receive them both left I need them right
1 Answer
The reel is ambidextrous. Unscrew the reel handle and remove the knob on the right side of the reel, screw the handle into the right side of the reel and replace the knob on the left side.

how many yards should i purchase to fill its spool with a 50 Lb braided line ?
1 Answer
To fill completely with 50lb braid you would want 500 yards. However you could also do 300 yards with some mono backing.
