Hawaii
Powerful and light
July 30, 2022
I use this reel for GT and other trevally in Hawaii. I’ve brought in a 52lb GT with the 6000 with no reel-related problem. I was able to crank down the drag when I was close to being reefed which really ended up saving the day.
Pros
  • Light, powerful, and compact.
Cons
  • I dislike the material on the handle. It picks up odor after handling a fish or bait. While I understand that the material makes it light, It would be great if Okuma would opt for a hollow-body light metal power handle design.

Rock Solid Performer
October 13, 2021
This is a reel with a sturdy frame and super-strong drag that has performed admirably. Handled 30-40 school yellowfin tuna without breaking a sweat. The fish-stopping power of its double-stacked drag is simply unreal. Highly recommended.
Pros
  • Excellent drag

Okuma Cedros CJ-65
February 5, 2013
A good looking entry level reel good for medium to light application. The drag is okay but it could be improved by using carbon fiber washers. Not sure about it's durability.
Pros
  • Waterproof drag with 31 lb drag power, aluminum frame and rotor. Good value for the money.
Cons
  • A bit heavy at 24.3 oz.

Okuma Cedros 55 spinning reel
November 8, 2012
Bought this reel last year (2011) and was told I wasted my money by friends. Well between last year and this year this reel has stood up to Stripers to 42 LBS and the brutal runs of Bluefish in the 15-18 LB class and not a single flaw! The drag is still smooth and the reel works like the day I bought it! Don't think I wasted my money!
Pros
  • Easy to cast, smooth drag.
Cons
  • The round knob handle takes a little getting use to. Not a problem though.

For tuna popping, Daiwa BG 8000 or Okuma Cedros 10.000 is better ?
1 Answer
I would say the Cedros is better suited to handle this fishing application, the only advantage to the BG would be line capacity

The 55s reel would fit best on the Okuma Nomad NTi-S-703M-MH. You would easily fit 500 yards of 20 lb braid on the 55s.

Can the 65s handle tuna and marlin up to 100lbs
1 Answer
I cannot say with confidence that the Cedros can withstand fish of that size. Spinning reels I would suggest for Tuna and Marlin of that size would be the Shimano Saragosa and Penn Slammer III.

i want a spinning reel for my shore jigging rod and i dont know which one is the best...okuma cedros cj55s or okuma azures z-55s;
1 Answer
I would go with either the 45 or 55 Cedros, especially if you are jigging. They are lighter reels compared to the Azure, but still have a quick line retrieval. I personally would choose the 55.

Does the Cj-80 have an automatic bail or do you have to flip it manually? I bought a Fin Nor Lethal LT 100 for around the same price only to find out that the bail is manual, which I was not interested in. I tried it out for a few weeks, hated it and tried to return it only to be told (by Amazon) that it was past 30 days so I couldn't get a refund. Ended up having to sell it on ebay for $75. So, does this model have manual or auto bail?
1 Answer
Hello Nelson. This reel is indeed an automatic bail. Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions.

Why are the okuma cedros spinning reels so cheap? I would just like a straight forard answer; such as if it just isn't in high demand or if there is a serious problem with the reel. Thank you.
2 Answers
Okuma specializes in selling reduced priced spinning reels. An honest straight forward answer is an Okuma Cedros is not going to feel as solid as a Shimano Stradic or new Penn Spinfisher V but it is still an awesome reel and an awesome price. There have been 0 reported issues with this reel.
Submitted by: Customer Service on November 7, 2012
I was concerned about this when I bought mine although I don't consider $165 cheep! When Okuma first came into the market their reels were cheap! But I have to say for two years now the Cedros has performed flawlessly on big Striper and Bluefish. It's light and this is an advantage when casting all day, but very strong reel when it has to be. The drag is as smooth as the Penns I own. I'm a charter captain and plan on buying a few more of these reels before Okuma realizes they underpriced them! They take a beating, and still work without a problem. Definately not a waste of money!
