Loved the rod
July 16, 2022
Loved the feel of the rod got some bass and some bluegills on it but after 2 weeks went to pick up the rod from the grass the rod snapped so easy. A foot down from the tip on a 6’6 rod very sad
Pros
  • Great feel and feel bites
Cons
  • Fragile

I gave it a one-star rating because that is as low as the system goes.

I was initially excited to put this rod to use on some local crappies and perch as it had a nice balance and feel to it. On my very first cast the rod broke about 20" from the top, using 4lb mono and a 1/8oz beetle spin.

Looking around on the internet it seems that the tip section breaking without any abuse to the rod happens with some regularity on this particular model. Perhaps there was a bad production run of these rods, I don't know. Not sure what is going on with their quality control as Okuma used to be decent gear.

Calling Okuma's customer service line was a joke. I gave up after being on hold for more than 30 minutes. And be forewarned, if you do get ahold of a human and they give you a return authorization, that's only to ship the broken rod to them. They'll want you to pay $19.95 for shipping the replacement rod to you.
Cons
  • Poor quality

Great UL rod at a great price
April 19, 2021
I normally use the L Celilo rods for trout and decided to try the UL rod for throwing mini jigs on lighter line. I paired it up with the Daiwa QZ750 and 4lb test line. Hooked a 5lb 13oz rainbow trout on the second cast! The supple rod absorbed all the trout had to give and I was able to land the fish. I got the 8' but think the 7'6" would be easier to manage the fish when netting. I might try more expensive UL rods to see if there is a difference, but this one works just fine.
Pros
  • Nice bend for fighting fish.
Cons
  • A faster tip might help with casting distance.

I got it for my son (7) and he can cast really far. He catched one pound trout with ease!
I have another okuma but I like this one better because it just cast farder.
Pros
  • Its weight, the cork handle (I always prefer cork)
Cons
  • None

I have noticed there are discrepancies between tackledirect's and other site specifications of the number of guides and reargrip lengths for the CE-S-762UL and CE-S-802UL. Some websites have the guide numbers for the CE-S-762UL as 7+Tip and the reargrip length as 8 1/2". Okuma's website (as well as others) have the guide numbers for the CE-S-802UL as 8+Tip and the reargrip length as 9 1/2". What are the accurate specifications of both the CE-S-762UL and CE-S-802UL in terms of number of guides and reargri p lengths? This information would be greatly appreciated.

9.5" rear grip and 8 + tip (9 guides) on the CE-S802UL. We do not have the 7'6 model here for me to check.
