Good so far

Just got it used only a few times. The live liner works fine. Need to give it more time and test it truly on a big fish.

Decent reel, but live liner switch sometimes trips
February 17, 2022
I've had this reel for about a year now. For the most part it does it's job quite well (I've brought in a 4 foot hammerhead to my kayak with it). However, the bait runner/live liner switch sometimes trips when I get a good strike on the reel, without me even touching it, and the fish escapes to freedom without having time to swallow the bait. It's in a rod holder, but the switch is nowhere near anything that would hit it, so I think the motion of the rod getting hit is enough to trip the switch. It might work in other applications, but it's not doing it for what I'm using it for.

Really wanted to like it, and the problem doesn't happen all the time, but I'm switching over to a conventional set up for my live bait trolling because of the issue.
Pros
  • Smooth operation when reeling. Pulled in a shark.
Cons
  • Live liner/bait feeder function issues

Nice features if you’re not a fan of the traditional casting reels.

Very Good Reel
May 23, 2021
I live in South Texas, bought this reel for pier fishing. Have 2 55 sizes and 1 80 size. They do awesome for me. My 80 brought in 45+ inch black drum and many smaller. The drag is great and I can fight my fish hard to get it in and released. Caught some nice jacks on the 55's. Live Liner function does its job.
Pros
  • I'm very happy, looks good and performs great. Also good line lay. Will be getting another 80 size.
Cons
  • Its unfair for the fish, but I'm okay with that.

Love this reel

I fish Cape Cod bay for mostly striped bass. I paired this reel on 7 foot hybrid rod and use it for fishing off the our boat and casting at the flats. Very smooth operation. I use power-pro braid without any problems. The drag is smooth and consistent. The live-liner function is as good if not better than my buddy's Shimano Bait-runner.
Pros
  • Price
  • Looks
  • Live-Liner fuction
Cons
  • None

Really smooth reel, I gave it a shot cause I wanted to try out a baitrunner. Nice quality and affordable. Scratches pretty easy though that's why I gave 4 stars

Does this model handle braid? What are the capacities? Is this your top of the line Baitrunners?
1 Answer
Okuma doesn't seem to provide line capacity ratings for braid. Generally the capacities for 10 lb. mono are equivalent to the capacity for 40 lb. braid and 12 lb. mono equates to 50 lb braid. As far as top of the line baitrunner reels, I would suggest looking at the Shimano Thunnus or Shimano Baitrunner D.
