Ushering in the next generation of advanced surfcasting technology, the ODM 2021 Genesis Surf Spinning Rods seek to revolutionize the modern surfcasting arsenal with the powerful combination of technology and passion. This new generation of Genesis Surf Rod brings higher quality materials to the table for an even lighter, thinner, and stronger rod than before. The new Genesis incorporates ODM's proprietary CNF2 (Carbon Nano Fiber Ver. 2) technology with 1K weave butt section in a completely re-engineered blank. This blank provides a highly parabolic bend for a smooth and effortless casting. The rod loads up with energy exceptionally well, allowing the rod to do the majority of the work when casting and fighting fish. The fast recovery helps propel many different types of lures great distances, making it perfect for casting anything from jigs and metals to swimming plugs and poppers. Making no compromises in terms of componentry, the 2021 Genesis is outfitted with Fuji tangle free K guides and a custom, ergonomic ODM reel seat. Taking after its predecessor, the new Genesis has been engineered from the ground up for surfcasters who demand the latest engineering and cutting edge technology.

NXGX-82 Surprisingly impressive ODM rod.
June 29, 2022
Fantastic rod, sensitive enough to see the action on an SP minnow, bucktails, flexible enough to throw light lures with ease, yet plenty of backbone to fight fish or throw heavy stuff as well. Build quality is top notch, not a single imperfection. I was a G Loomis, Lamiglas, St. Croix guy until I decided to try this one. I was debating whether to get this ODM rod VS the St Croix Triumph 8’ TSF80M2 and the negative reviews from other anglers that bought the TSF80M2 from TD discouraged me and made me choose the NXGX-82 which in the end was as a smart choice. Highly recommended.
Pros
  • Competitive price, good build and decent rod for angler?s on a budget and who don?t want to spend or have the capacity to spend top notch dollars on top of the line rods.
Cons
  • Warranty should be five years instead of one year to prove the durability of the ODM rods and they stand behind their products.

Fantastic Rod
May 2, 2022
It's extremely light and casts as well as other 9 and 10 ft rods I have. I was truly surprised at how far I was able to cast with this rod. Another thing about ODM customer service (having to do with another rod that was out of warranty) they went above and beyond in their service. I can't imagine buying anything other than ODM rods.
Pros
  • Light, strong, casts great

Top Quality Rod..One of my Favorites
February 2, 2022
I bought this rod for use casting off break waters, etc. it is a well balanced and easy to cast rod. My second Genesis rod … but one of my favorites overall. I also regularly use a 11 ft Shimano Dialuna and 11 ft Daiwa Lateo rod. This rod is a bit firmer than either … but better balanced too.
Pros
  • Light weight
  • Balance
  • Strength
Cons
  • Cost

Liking it
August 5, 2021
Took this rod to OBX for a couple days of surf fishing. Paired it with Penn Spinfisher VI 5500LC and 20# braid. Ocean conditions called for 3-4 oz sinker with fish bites bait. I like how the rod throws this weight. It’s rated up to 6 oz, but I had no need to go that high. The rod loaded well on the throw and sent the bait out to an estimated 60 yds+. The fit and finish of the rod is excellent. The rod is 2 piece with the break at 50% of length. Felt like a 1 piece when fishing. Having a 2 piece makes traveling with the rod inside my SUV possible. So far, I’m not seeing any downsides for this rod. Feels like a moderate fast action.
Pros
  • Beautiful fit and finish
  • 2 piece
  • Loads and throws ~4 oz well
  • Sensitive
Cons
  • None

Odm Genesis!
October 12, 2017
This is the best surf rod I have ever used. Weighs nothing, has a very comfortable reel seat, moderate action, and can easily horse in big fish. Going from a Mojo, Paraflex, St Croix to this is like moving 10 years into the future. ODM has the best customer service in town too.
Pros
  • Light
  • Sensitive
  • Comfortable
  • Power
Cons
  • Cost
  • Thin grip (some don't like that)

What size Daiwa BG saltwater spinning reel would you recommend for the 10' rod?  And what other spinning reel would you recommend for smooth distance casting?
1 Answer
Best options for a 10 foot rod would be Daiwa BG 5000.

For a Daiwa BG MQ you should go with a 6000 size.

Penn Slammer or Battle are great options as well.

6000 size for the Penns are best suited for a 10' rod.

1 Answer
This is a matter of preference really, and you can't go wrong with either choice here because this a high quality great performing rod.

the only advantage the 11' rod gives you is a little extra distance and a little more length to keep pressure on the fish
