These new lines are taking OTI to the next level in value and quality.? They are lighter, stronger, and faster in taper for the longest possible casting distance and more control boat side. Combining the latest technology in blank material and components with a classic, streamlined look, they're less bulky with the new size 40 stripper guide and a length that gives you the extra casting distance, but with a more balanced feel.

Fantastic popper rod for tuna!

Can't say enough good things about these rods. OTI knows what they're doing. Just make sure that you lube the ferrel before putting the two pieces together (I use a thin coat of wax). Otherwise you may have major issues getting the two pieces apart after fishing, as the tolerances are extremely tight.

casts far
April 22, 2016
I have used it for casting Halco Max 130 lures. Used for overnight tuna trips out of Galveston, TX. These lures may be a little light for this rod, but I am still able to cast them pretty far even underhanded
Pros
  • able to make long casts because of the length of the rod: 8'
  • very sturdy rod;
Cons
  • i feel this rod is a bit too heavy. casting all night took a toll on my shoulders. After my first fishing trip I compared it to other tuna popping rods in it's class and this one seemed to be the heavier than most. For this reason I am only give it 4 stars.

What a rod!
July 28, 2015
I needed a rod to fish for tuna, marlin, amberjack, snapper, etc... in the Gulf off the Midnight Lump and near the offshore rigs. I looked at a lot of rods in this class from every brand listed on TD. This really fit the bill and it doesn't disappoint. Extremely well made and looks great. 8' length was perfect for me - enough to cast popping plugs using heavy duty spin gear 80-100 yards from the boat, but still enough backbone to get the job done. This particular model is slightly more versatile and sensitive than the heavy weight version from OTI in my opinion. But this is a big benefit for anyone who wants versatility and practicality in a rod... I also fish stripers back east, and this rod would easily serve for that species from both boat and jetty inlet. So great value. Its not just a specialty rod, but if tuna is what you are after...it is the goto choice.
Pros
  • Versatile, well built, excellent action for a rod with solid backbone.
Cons
  • None

A severe stick for my sever Stella SW20000PG. So you want a spinning outfit...Bad ass....
Pros
  • Beautifully executed. A two piece rod that does not seem like a two piece rod. You could bring anything to the boat with this rod.........
Cons
  • Exspensive, The rod butt hypalon is not as beefy as a convention reel stick. No hook saver. Due to the length of this rod, if you hook something large be prepared for a work out.

I have Saltiga 6500H. It will be good balance with this rod? What size should I pick?

The Saltiga 6500 would balance perfectly with either model. As far as which one to choose, I'd suggest selecting the model that has a lure weight within the weight of the plugs you most frequently use.

The Saltiga 6500 would balance well with the OTI Tuna Sniper 7'6'' rod.
