Very good jigging rod.
August 21, 2022
Purchased this rod just for jigging. It’s has a great spine and heavy enough to fight a mid size tuna. The only thing I wish it had was traditional guide alignment. The wrap-around guide placement appears to be slowing the release of line. This is a problem when bottom fishing in 200’.
Pros
  • Strong and light. Priced well.
Cons
  • Twisted guides

This rod has exceeded my expectations of a inexpensive slow pitch jigging rod. It preforms just as good as other more expensive models. The only down side is the length, I wish this came in a 7 or7.5 ft length as well.

Would this rod be good for jigging bucktails for fluke, matched with a quantum accurist?
1 Answer
Hi Tom, The Ocean Tackle Intermational Pitch Black Slow pitch jigging rods will work fine for fluke fishing with lighter jigs up to about 3oz. We also recommend the Pitch Black Inshore series in either the 7ft MH rated 1-4 and H in 2-5 for heavier applications ( https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-pitch-black-inshore-rods.html ). Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!

How would these rods handle light duty bottom fishing in addition to jigging? I was a lightweight rod to bottom fish and jig with paired with an Avet SXJ. I just dont know how well this rod would do with 6-8oz sinkers and regular bottom rigs.
1 Answer
Hi Cameron, The Ocean Tackle International Pitch Black Slow Pitch Jigging Rods would be great for jigging and bottom fishing applications. The 350gram models can hold up to 12oz sinkers and jigs and the 400gram models can hold up to 14oz sinkers and jigs. Fishing with 6-8oz sinkers would be more than fine with any of these rods. Would the OTIPB63400A pair nicely with the Penn Fathom 40NLD 2 Speed reel for 50#-100# BFT and YFT?  Would there be any problems with the size of the real seat for that reel?

1 Answer
Hi Aaron, The Ocean Tackle International OTIPB63400A Pitch Black Conventional Rod would pair fine with a Penn Fathom 40NLD. However the rod may be a little too light for your application. I would recommend a Ocean Tackle International FB56500A Fathom Blade 500g Jigging rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-fb56500a-fathom-blade-acid-rod.html This would also pair well with your Penn Fathom 40NLD reel and would be plenty of power to handle tuna between 50-100lbs. Would the 400g spinning rod be under powered to jig for yellowfin with?
1 Answer
Danny,

The OTI Pitch Black rod OTI-PB63400S would be fine for school sized YFT (30-50lb).  For larger fish you might be a little under gunned,  but a customer did catch a 110lb tuna on it.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
