A bit overkill since I use this to toss lure from the boat in the Delta for Stripers. Handled them with ease, a bit unfair actually. High quality components, great leverage. I’m waiting to test this out for YT and YFT next month In SoCal. Paired with Shimano Twinpower SW 5k.

Using this rod for tossing big lures to trophy size fresh water stripers in a East TN. Beautiful construction and I’m a sucker for butt jointed rods as well. Have used it tossing jerkbaits in the 1-2oz range, poppers in the 2oz range, and swimbaits up to 3oz. It works great and tosses a country mile. Plenty of backbone for turning stripers in heavy current that can be around the 50lb mark in this area. I have mine matched up with a Shimano Spheros SW 6000.

Could this rod match with a 4000 or 5000 size reel for surf casting, or perhaps a Van Staal 150 ?

The lengths of the Ocean Tackle InternationalGeneration 1 TS2 Popping Rod are as follows, Bottom half: 33-3/8” Top Half:64-1/2” The junction is just above the fore grip.

Is this rod applicable to surf fishing?

Can be used from the surf without issue, Designed for popping applications from a boat, but if you are typically casting lures that weight 1.5oz to 4oz this rod would certainly get the job done.

A Twinpower XD would be a little light for this rod, better off with a Twin Power SW 5000 or Shimano Saragosa 5000/6000.
