Ordered this rod a while ago, I was finally able to get out and use it this weekend and wow was I impressed. Fantastic rod, I used it in 225 feet paired with an Accurate Valiant 500N and it is an extremely light, great feeling combination. The rod has plenty of backbone for the Red Snapper and Grouper I caught with it. I highly recommend this rod. Easy to fish with all day and Great components on it at a great price.
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Acid wrap
  • Good components

I'm interested in a rod for trolling (reel: either a Shimano Speedmaster or Penn Fathom)

Would this rod be a good pair with the goal of primarily trolling and reduction of side to side torque when cranking on an a conventional reel? (I'm a spinning guy at heart)

1 Answer
Hi Josh, The Ocean Tackle International FB58400A Fathom Blade 400g Acid Wrapped Conventional rod was designed specifically for vertical jigging applications and would not be ideal for trolling. Instead I would recommend a Shimano TLC59XXHRS Tallus Slick Butt Roller Stripper Tip Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tlc59xxhrsbla-tallus-slick-butt-roller-stripper-tip-rod.html This would pair well with either a Shimano Speedmaster or Penn Fathom and be be pefect for offshore trolling applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
