The Northbar Tackle Bottledarter is extremely versatile and can be fished a variety of different ways.
- On those flat calm nights, the Bottledarter can be swam on the surface much like a metal lip. A painfully slow retrieve makes a nice wiggle and produces a surface wake that is sure to entice some nice fish.
- On open beach without much current, a slow steady retrieve works very well. Mix in a few twitches of the rod tip to really make the lure dart.
- The Bottledarter lure loves current rips. Cast this lure out and just take up the slack to remain in contact with the lure as it sweeps. Every once and a while take a full crank on the reel while lifting your rod tip (you will feel the lure really swim). Reel down slowly while keeping tension on the line. Repeat this retrieve and hold on!
- Loaded with 10cc's of liquid. Northbar's testing shows that a loaded Bottledarter casts very well. The action is slightly different than unloaded. The lure has more darting action and has already taken some very nice fish!

This plug holds well in current, sweep and rougher conditions where a bomber, salt pro etc.. will wash out.
Does not cast as well as you want it to, but can be loaded. Upgrade hardware to 4/0 mustads and you will get a little extra weight and the plug will swim a little deeper as well

- Dos not cast as far as an SS bottle plug, but you can load these and they will cast a little better. I use mineral oil to load, some casters prefer BB's

BOOM, fish on as my drag hisses at me signaling a good fish. After a slow but steady tug of war, 25 pounds of striped bass lay at my feet. Nothing quite like it get yourself one

Fly fisherman here, tying out saltwater surf fishing, so, not sure line strength to put on my saltwater reel, a round old school Abu.
What would be a good lower lb line to use with this? I prefer something to keep the sport in it,
not something I can haul a Navy carrier in. It's not the picture taken I'm interested in. :)
Always catch and release if possible. It is possible to work a fish too much on too light of line fly fishing, don't want to encounter that in saltwater.

Hi Onic, Based on your fishing application, I would recommend PowerPro Super Slick V2 Braided Line in 30lb test. https://www.tackledirect.com/powerpro-super-slick-v2-braided-line-30lb-300yds.html This would be a great universal line that you could use for surf fishing with your Abu Garcia round baitcaster. This line would be light enough to cast and work lures properly yet strong enough to bring in large striped bass and bluefish. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Hello. I am a little confused. In the description for this lure, it states that it comes loaded with 10cc of fluid. And the manufacturer provides a tutorial on how to load the Bottledarter. Does this lure come loaded with liquid from the manufacturer? And if so, what kind of liquid is used? Thank you for your time!

We spoke with Northbar. They said none of the lures are loaded. The wording is bad in the description. That is the reason they posted the how-to videos. They suggest loading with mineral oil instead of water to prevent internal rusting.
