One of the most lifelike lures you'll ever see, Mustad InkVader Octopus Jig looks, moves, and even squirts black ink just like the real thing. Constructed from a highly supple yet super tough TPE material, the InkVader's eight tentacles respond to every movement of the rod tip with intense realism. The InkVader is most effectively deployed with a vertical jigging technique around reefs and other bottom structure where octopus may hide, but is also effective when slow trolled or even dead-sticked, as the slightest current or movement of the boat is enough to bring the free flowing tentacles to life. The heads are equipped with two different line-tie points to cater towards different approaches. Each InkVader Jig comes with 10 ink tablets that can be added to the head cavity, and will allow the lure to disperse a non-toxic and soluble black ink infused with actual octopus scent. This feature brilliantly mimics the behavior of an octopus fleeing from predators, and only heightens the InkVader's unprecedented realism. There are many different iterations of the InkVader to choose from, including three different sizes, ten different weight options, and nine photorealistic color patterns modeled after actual species of octopus.

I bought this actually thinking it was much lighter ... after getting it, I was trolling off Cape Hatteras, and put it out on the long rigger. In two days, I got 2 Mahi-Mahi, 1 yellowfin, and a cobia. Cant wait to try it in another month or two on sails and marlin. I also want to use deep jigging for grouper.
Pros
  • life-like, runs straight and deep
Cons
  • none so far

I have used a couple 7oz in 'Mimic' color and find them very effective. Not to much Yellow Eye bycatch either.
Pros
  • These really work
Cons
  • Need a new tablet everyday

The form of jig is like a ball which gives it a straight and fast sinking. I will suggest putting the assist hooks on the outside of it. This will make it less probable to tangle on the bottom. So far has lasted a long time but i wish they make replaceable skirts.

Simply works

I was only able to fish the medium 5oz glow for 1 trip so far in about 95’ off of Charleston, SC and what a trip it was. I fished this on my Shimano grappler j slow pitch rod and was hooked up within 30 seconds after hitting the bottom if I even got to the bottom every time for the whole trip. I caught more fish then the other two guys on the boat who were fishing live menhaden, although they did catch larger red snapper with the live bait. I was doing a nice slow smooth jig and getting hit on the pitch and the fall and was even getting hit when I let it sit still while I was doing something else on the boat. I caught red snapper, triggerfish, cobia, white grunt, Black Sea bass, vermillion snapper, amber jack and some more I’m forgetting. The soft plastic held up but I can see some places that look like they will get ripped off soon. The hooks are extremely sharp and strong, no need to replace. I didn’t bother with the ink packs so I can’t opine on them. Highly recommend, I’m grabbing a back up and some other sizes for different depths and currents.
Pros
  • Sharp and strong hooks. Realistic action. Everything eats this.
Cons
  • Have to buy a whole new jig if the soft plastic is ruined.

InkVader put to the test.
June 1, 2021
I purchased the InkVader targeting Grouper. I have used it on two separate occasions. The ink tablets last for a few drops. The 9oz lure which I purchased is a bit light for 200-400 foot drops. I have only jigged with it, I have not attempted trolling it. I will give it another try in a week. Construction is very good, hooks etc.
Pros
  • Design, color options and weight options.
Cons
  • Price, access to additional ink tabs.

These are sofa king awful

I dropped down once in South Carolina in 135’ of water before I even hit bottom and came back up with the lead and the assist hooks and no fish. Tried a 2nd one and made it to bottom but no matter how much I was getting tugged on I couldn’t get tight. They’re after the octopus arms not the weight/hooks.
Pros
  • Looks good, got bit quick
Cons
  • Destroyed in one use.

Not as cool as it looks

This will catch more fisherman than fish. I got skunked last time out using only these and the two other guys were catching boat load with conventional speed jigs

Great jig.

The ink tablets will start falling apart if your hands or the jig are wet. It stained my hands, could not get it off until I used some Gojo.

One tablet lasts maybe 4-5 casts.

I did catch a fluke on this jig, there was no tablet in, had a small piece of bait off of one of the trailer hooks.
