Rod has a lot of Backbone
May 29, 2021
Very smooth Finish. Has a lot of backbone for as thin as the rod it. One downfall would be I wasnt able to put a penn 9500 series reel into the reel seats. Seats were too small.
Pros
  • Much lighter than a lot of rods in its class.

Excellent hardware, looks beautiful and feels great, incredibly light, but wish I had gone for the 7ft rather than the 6.5.
Will still cast fine, just lost some distance.
Pros
  • Great looking, hardware well suited for saltwater. Incredibly light but serious backbone

Great rod at an incredible price.
February 20, 2021
I have fished this rod with 60g jigs all the way up to 240g jigs and somehow it feels right with both. If you're looking to get into vertical jigging and don't want to buy 3-4 rods, this rod is a great place to start. I've landed 60lb yellowfin on this rod in 10 minutes, with a 6500 size reel. At $120, just buy it. I have a few but at this price I couldn't say no. I also ordered it yesterday and received it today, and used the fed ex ground option. $132 total and it got to me in 1 day. I am in MD so not far NJ but still, Tackle Direct is awesome.
Pros
  • Fishes a wide range of jigs, no lack of power, great value.
Cons
  • Not really. Maybe the gimbal is slick but that can be dealt with.

Excellent Sensitive Rod With Backbone 15-30lb
June 15, 2018
I purchased the (3) 15-40lb, (2) 30-50lb. Both rods are awesome for $120.00. The 15-40lb is sensitive with a nice medium bend, I use is for stripers, halibut, Sturgeon in SF, Delta.
The 30-50lb I use for Farallon Islands, drops to 170ft. Nice and sensitive, loads up quicker, with the plenty of backbone. Both rods are super light will handle large fish. Excellent rods, well built. I just ordered the 50-100lb.
I only found one review on youtube about these rods. I originally purchased one of each, used them within two weeks and purchased the additional.
I am a verified purchaser from tackledirect.com

Have fun and sun, fish!

Why is the 2070 referred to as “specialty”?

What reel size would you match that rod up with? Would this be a good rod for blackfish?

1 Answer

The 2070 is specialtybecause it is exclusive to Tackledirect.com. The rod will pair well with4000-6000 size reels with suitable drag and power for jigging. It will work forblackfish.

Hi there my names Al. I'm interested in the Maxel rods. But couldn't find any reviews on the Internet. Would this rod be good for jigging for tuna? I'm looking for a good jigging rod for jigs 200g to 350g. Price range $200 to $400. Do you have any recommendations?
1 Answer
Yes these are new to market but were proven repeatedly in testing on those fish.
