Makai Deception Fluorocarbon leader is 100% fluorocarbon. The characteristics of this leader allows anglers the ability to match their leader to the targeted species without losing an advantage. It will also build confidence that the leader won't fail and that the fish won't shy away due to the leader material. The Makai Deception fluorocarbon has a refractive index that is closely identical to the water. It won't absorb water and has no buoyancy.

Not as good as other fluorocarbon leaders

What’s nice about this fluorocarbon leader is the price, but I think the knot tying of this leader leaves a little to be desired. I think there are other options that have a little more quality, but with a higher price.
Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Stiffness. Knot Tying.

Good line, not great. Only trust it for smaller fish and pinfish rigs.

Great strength to match to a small bait caster for fishing in the Florida Bay, easy to tie any knot and does not kink up while tying.

Easy to tie any knot required for your terminal tackle; very smooth and flexible flour and nice to have a 50 yard spool. Great price too!

This is my go to Flurocarbon for both Inshore and Offshore fishing!! One of my top 5 favorite brands of all time. This fluorocarbon is both invincible and tough as nails. Definite requirement for any tackle box!

Absolute Best Fluorocarbon Leader
December 19, 2018
For me no other fluorocarbon compares to Makai Deception. It ties unlike any other, has incredible strength and abrasion resistance; attached is a 32" snook a client caught with me using 20lb. Deception. The fish had him wrapped in the mangroves and he was able to work it out and land the fish. Incredibly the leader was barely chafed from the fish or the mangrove roots.
Pros
  • Ties like mono
  • Exceptinal strength
  • Abrasion resistance
Cons
  • None!

My Top Choice for Fluoro
January 11, 2018
I’ve been using Makai for several years now. It is as tough as nails and perfect for those hard to catch tuna and line shy yellowtail. I’m always the first guy to be bitten on an Open party boat, or when I’m on my boat with friends. Makai is my go to fluorocarbon.

15-50 lb. test comes on a 50 yard spool. 60-80 lb. test comes on a 25 yard spool. 200 lb. is available on a 30 yard spool.
