Lightweight and Lew's power
May 22, 2019
Recently added this reel, and had it inshore once, casting a long rod into strong coastal wind. It's beautifully finished, appointed, and the carbon handle is a nice touch. I've fished Lew's for 30 years, and over a few years added 3 low-profile models, when I decided my BB-25SW had become too valuable to fish. I never fished the mag reels until my new Super Duty and Inshore Custom. This reel does not have the mag, but has a finely adjustable centrifugal casting brake. Plenty of capacity with braid. Between the three, the mag reels are better at handling light baits and casting into wind. No question this reel is built to last with the upgraded new gearing.
Pros
  • Beauty; powerful drag; lightweight; pinion gear bearing
Cons
  • non-mag centrifugal brake is not quite as good on light baits and casting into wind and the new generation mag brake
