Designed with a laundry list of high performance features, the Lew's Mach Crush Gen 2 Spinning Reels perform just as well as they look with their rich orange glow paint scheme. These spinning reels feature impressive components including a high strength solid brass pinion gear, durable stainless steel main shaft, and a premium 11 bearing system with double-shielded stainless steel ball bearings housed within a lightweight aluminum frame. Strength and rigidity are ensured by the lightweight Carbon C40 Skeletal Speed Rotor with an aluminum bail wire, while the sealed carbon fiber drag system provides more than enough stopping power to put the brakes on any big fish you might encounter. Anglers can expect superior line management with all types of lines thanks to the S-curve oscillation system that ensures the double anodized braid-ready spool is precision loaded. Equipped with a signature Winn Dri-Tac handle knob on a machined aluminum handle, the Mach Crush Gen 2 provides super comfortable winding and excellent grip even in wet conditions.

Good but not Great.

I gave it 3 stars for 2 reason one, the paint chips very easy, you have to be careful with them. And two, the drag. I was fight a red fish and I thought the drag was sufficient but it pull line and got off. Could've been my fault. The last fish of the day, I remembered the one that got away pulled too much drag so I crank down about a quarter turn because a half turn was way too tight. Well a quarter turn was way too tight as well, the line broke. I never turned the fish around and no line come off the spool. It seems theres a fine line between too much and not enough. If you don't mind loosening the drag after the hook set to fight the fish theres no problems and I do that a lot with bass and sometimes red fish. With this real all the time with red fish. Im hoping it'll get better the more used, maybe get a little wear on the drag washers.
Pros
  • Very smooth real, love the handle grip
Cons
  • Paint chips really easy and the drag is either too loose or too tight. I'm sure it can be set but it needs to be adjusted at 1/8th of a turn at a time. The one I bought does anyway.

I know that this reel is a freshwater reel, however would it be okay to use in saltwater or would it just ruin it?
1 Answer
This is a saltwater reel and does not have much protection against salt corrosion however if you take very good care of it and rinse after use it will hold up. Also if you only use for smaller inshore species.
