JK is my favorite .. I called customer service and described what I was looking for in a sand spike … the JK was not available .. so I waited .. I wanted .. height .. strength .. and light .. this one does it .. easy release .. worth the price .. it’s not going to wear out before I do !!!!

Add a rubber mallet to drive it in the sand, that's it. My first time off the beach on Virginia's barrier island. Happy

This releases well under tension, PVC and others aluminum ones I own where the rod butt sits deeper in are hard to release. The JK model is open so you only need to slide the butt up a few inches and you can get the rod out and continue fighting without letting the line go slack.

they also transport well and don't have any plastic parts.
Pros
  • sturdy

Ditch the PVC

I grew up surf fishing and always used 2’ pvc spikes for anything from the beach. After 10+ years of the same old thing, that has changed. I was first introduced to jk sand spikes upon a reccomendation from my uncle that had heard about them from numerous suggestions from guys at his fishing club. When I decided to check them out for myself and purchased one, I realized I didn’t know what I was missing. These spikes are better than anything else out there. The open design allows quick access to your rod during a strike, the aluminum cleans up with no effort at all, and with your reel sitting higher you not only avoid interference from wave crests and grass, but can more easily manipulate your reel and bait your rigs while the rod is still in the holder. They’re surprisingly light and sink deep into the sand with no effort at all. 5.5’ may seem long on paper, but I opted for it upon a reccomendation of Joe himself and am glad I did. As he said to me, if you can transport it, go for the extra length. If you’re looking for the best out there, with the added bonus of supporting a small business, this is it. I know I won’t be buying anything else from here on out.
Pros
  • Tall, quick access, lightweight, easy to use, durable, well constructed.
Cons
  • Might be too long for some vehicles.

JK's Alu spikes 5'
October 29, 2016
I just spent two weeks on the outer banks fishing in some fairly stiff conditions as well as fishing a tournament. I used the Aluminum 5€™ spikes the whole time. They were great I found them to be easier to set than the old PVC and the ease of rod pick up was delight compared to the deep seated rod but in the plastic spikes.. I would recommend these spikes to any serious surf rat. Only fault I found was the shafts are a bit too light weight the extra cost of a thicker Aluminum would be well worth the money
Pros
  • easy to set, rod pick-up.
Cons
  • Shafts are too light weight... thicker shafts would be a good idea

Perfect for surf caster

Used this on my beach in Cape Cod, MA. Best sand spike ever. Sturdy and simple, perfect for bait fishing. Used a 2 pound sledge to hammer it down. Caught a 42 in stripper and the spike did not move an inch.

If you're rocking a pole over 12 feet, you're looking at your rod tip being 16 feet into the air
