TackleDirect Service Wins Again
June 29, 2022
Before reviewing the product, a tip of my cap to service, TackleDirect is an absolute industry leader in this regards. I had placed mutliple online orders to take advantage of a recent discount. I misread my e-mail and when I got to the store one order was ready for pickup but the other was still being prepared. Staff went above and beyond to ensure I could walk out of the store with the item that day, thank you again!

As for the rod, it's an excellent product. Very light, very comfortable. Plenty of backbone for anything you would encounter in its class. While this is advertised as their "fluke" rod, this is more than enough rod for inshore sea bass fishing and will certainly handle all but the biggest tog you will encounter in the mid-Atlantic. I paired this with a Penn Fathom 300LP.
Pros
  • - Lightweight
  • - Great action and backbone
  • - Looks great
Cons
  • - The spiral wrap is a matter of preference. While not a huge fan, I do recognize its benefits.

Would this rod be a good (or better) fit to pair with an Tanacom 1000 electric reel for slow pitch jigging in 800 to 1100' of water and jigs from 400 to 600 g?
1 Answer
Hey Rusty, The Jigging World Shogun rod has more of a fast tip as well as a lighter weight rating compared to what you're requesting to do. We recommend the Daiwa Deep Drop Rod in the heavy variant to allow you to jig that deep effectively. ( https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-tanacom-dendoh-offshore-deep-drop-rod.html ) Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with! Tight lines!

Would be this rod good for deep drop  haddock/ cod fishing , 300 feet and 16 oz sinkers ?
1 Answer
Hi Andrew, The Jigging World Shogun 7'6" MH Conventional Jigging Rod would be great for fishing deep water with heavy lead for Cod and Haddock. However since it's currently sold out I would also recommend a Ocean Tackle International FB56500A Fathom Blade 500g Acid Jigging Rod.

Hello,

What reel would pair nicely with the SGC76-MH? I will be mainly bottom fishing for fluke, sea bass and tog. Preferably in the $200-300 price range.

1 Answer
Hi Drew, I would recommend a Penn FTHII12SD Fathom II Star Drag Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-fthii12sd-fathom-ii-star-drag-reel.html This reel holds plenty of braided line and has a lot of power needed to pull seabass, fluke, and large tog up from the bottom. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
