Jigging World Ghost Hunter Popping Rods were designed for avid tuna popping anglers who throw anything from light stick baits to topwater poppers. Each model in this series features a light blank with a parabolic action that means more torque is transferred to the fish, not the angler, which leads to a quicker fight time and more fish caught when the bite is hot. Authentic Fuji components are used throughout, with Fuji MNAG guides and a Fuji DPS reel seat that offers peace of mind when you are hooked up on a fish of a lifetime. With models ranging from PE4 to PE10, and a max drag range between 15 and 40lbs, you will be hard pressed to find a better popping rod regardless of whether you are after school sized yellowfin on the edge or 150lb class bluefin on your favorite inshore lump. Covered by a 2 year warranty to the original owner you can fish any of the Ghost Hunter Popping Rods with confidence!

great rod
January 18, 2022
Purchased this rod after talking to tackle direct customer service and their recommendation. Used it for tuna fishing in Texas gulf and rod handled yellowfins great. Bought two rods Ghost hunter 150 and ocean tackle OTI-TS284060 based on recommendation from Tackle direct customer service and both handled perfectly casting flying frenzys and halco 130's. With these rods casting is actually very fun and doable for couple hrs without getting tired.
Pros
  • light, and sensitive enough for small bite but strong enough for bigger fish
Cons
  • dont have any

Best popping rod on a budget

Why spend twice the price when this thing is an absolute tuna slayer. Can handle fish over 200lbs, lots of lifting power with a sensitive tip to whip lures a mile.

Which is a better match for a Penn 8500 slammer JWD-0012  Or the OTI-TS286080 TS2 Popping Rod. Will use in NJ/NY popping for YFT and BFT usually in the 40-80lbs range always with a possibility of a larger fish.
1 Answer
Hi John, We recommend the Ocean Tackle Tuna Sniper 2 rod in the 8ft 60-80lbs rating to pair with your Penn Slammer 8500. Please let us know there is anything else we can assist you with!

Would the 100 or 150 be a better rod for jacks and other fish in the 30 - 50 lb range? Also would the 8k saragosa work well with both of these?
1 Answer
Hi Josh, I would recommend the Jigging World Ghost Hunter 150S Popping Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/jigging-world-jw-ghp-76-150-ghost-hunter-popping-rod.html This would be great paired with a Saragosa 8000. However, Since it's currently sold out I would also recommend a Shimano SPSW8000HGA Spheros SW A Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-spsw8000hga-spheros-sw-a-spinning-reel.html This would pair great with the Jigging World Ghost Hunter 150S popping rod for fishing for Jacks and other species. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Which model do you recommend for tile fish in 800-1200 feet of water on a party boat?  Ideally it would handle 2-5 pounds of lead for deep dropping.  Thanks
1 Answer
These rods were designed for throwing popping plugs and stickbaits for tuna. This would not be an ideal deep-dropping setup. A solid choice for deep-dropping would be a Phenix PHD760X2H Black Diamond Hybrid Offshore Conventional Rod paired with a Shimano Talica 20IICAM.

Where is the joint on this rods and the length of each section?
1 Answer
These rods are a butt joint rod, meaning the blank slides into the foregrip section.

I do not have the exact specifications for each rod section, but i would guess the butt section to be 24-30" making the tip section 56-60"

What rod could I pair a penn slammer 10500 with?
1 Answer
This totally depends what you plan on targeting and what fishing application you intend to use the reel for,

if you are looking at the Ghost Hunter  popping rods i would recommend the 7'6 200-300gram models

Is the 300 model reel seat going to fit Penn Slammer 10500? I'm looking for a rod for 150-200lb class tuna.
1 Answer
This 300g model rod would certainly fit well with your Penn Slammer 10500 size reel, This set up may be a blast for targeting tuna and The rod should hold up to these fish., i am not confident that this pairing would hold up to 150+# class fish, im not sure if 350 yards of 40-50# braid would be sufficient for stopping these beasts, The spool capacity seems to be the only downside to these Penn Slammer reels.
