Black Widow has been a favorite with fresh and saltwater anglers since its introduction. It’s a thin-diameter, premium co-polymer monofilament that incorporates multi-color camouflaging technology, so fish don’t see it. But that’s only one of the reasons you’ll love it. Black Widow is a supple line that lies beautifully on any reel and casts with near zero friction. It has low memory, so it won’t coil up after sitting on the reel for extended periods, and it’s a tough line that provides solid fish-fighting performance.

For the record conscious angler, it’s I.G.F.A. True-Test rated. Whether you jig for smallmouths, troll for walleyes, plug stripers, or chunk tuna, Black Widow is a proven performer that won’t let you down when the fishing heats up.

After the recommendation from a friend to use Black Widow 8 kilo (16-pound) on baitcasting reels for both bass and saltwater backcountry use, I was impressed enough to try this red and black mono for other uses. Spinning reels, despite their advanced engineering, are all prone to twist monofilament when used with wobbling spoons, regular blade spinners and even small diving crankbaits in fast river currents.
Thin diameter of Black Widow allows excellent depth and abrasion resistance for river fishing using 4-kilo (8 lb. test approx) instead of normal 6 lb. monofilament.
Black Widow is terrific at not holding spool memory and avoiding twisting. It's knot strength is excellent. I use mostly braid (with long mono and fluoro leaders) on spinning reels when fishing soft plastics, crankbaits and topwater. I plan to use more Black Widow in 6, 8 and 12-pound test on spinning and lighter baitcasting because it "fishes well."
Pros
  • Good knot capability
  • Low memory
  • Minimal stretch
  • Small diameter for true pound test
Cons
  • Does not come in bulk 1/4 pound spools in lighter tests (6 & 8 lb.)

Add distance; minimize twisting

8lb. Black Widow is a compelling excuse to use spinning tackle in both moving river water and inshore fresh and saltwater conditions.
Excellent capacity on 3000-size spinning spools and excellent distance. Minimal stretch and good knot strength.
Doesn't deteriorate as quickly as most monos under harsh weather (cold and hot) conditions.
Pros
  • Reasonable price
Cons
  • Would like it on 1/4 pound spools

Pretty good stuff, only complaint I have is when I cast any lure over 2 ounces, the line snaps after a couple casts. So, I wouldn't overload the line with heavier lures. Other than that the line is pretty good. Reeled in a 34" Striper this past spring with no problem. Its casts very well, close to braid, pretty strong for being so thin and durable.
