The Halco Roosta Popper is designed to be used as a straight retrieve popper and a blooper. When retrieved, the action can be changed by the level of the rod tip. Keeping the tip close to the water creates a massive bubble stream as the lure tracks through the water with a slight wiggling action. This can be particularly useful in rough surface conditions where the lure needs to be kept in the water to minimize cart wheeling. The low splash, high bubble retrieve can also be useful for fish that are shy of large splashes.

Easy to Pop
July 14, 2022
The first thing you'll love about this popper is that it is easy to get a good splash out of it. I think it has to be up there with the easiest poppers to get a pop. You only have to jerk/sweep the rod a little. The profile is big so I believe even the shorter length ones can entice bigger fish than you would expect for the length.

The only downside in my opinion is the paint bruises off easily. Also may not be ideal if you need a fast moving popper as trying to work this aggressively will result in it flying out the water.

Specks and red drum will readily target these lures. No matter what color.

Awesome top water hits!!
May 9, 2022
I am still amazed that smaller sized slot fish will mail the 135 lure. Heavy lure makes for some long cast. Specks and Reds love this lure, only word of caution is to make sure you have a rod designed for this heavy lure. I have no complaints.
Pros
  • Long casts
  • Multi species targets lure
  • Easy to work lure
Cons
  • Large (135 or bigger) can be hard to store.

BIG splashes
April 7, 2021
I've just started using popper style lures for saltwater and this one is a killer. Give it a small pull and there's a huge splash from the lure.

Add this one to your tackle box.

Awesome Lure that you can cast a mile
September 1, 2020
Took this out for the first time this past weekend and really liked the action it created. Its a bit smaller than some of the other saltwater poppers, but it has the perfect shape for long casts.

This hands down one of the best poppers out there. Great action with not a lot of work needed. Fish keep hitting it and hitting. My favorite lure hands down. Got hit by rooterfish, mahi, tuna, jack, prety much anything that swims

Solid popper not the paint
May 15, 2020
I have various sizes and colors of Halco Roosta popper and most of them have caught fish for me. However, the paint doesn't hold long. After few hits by YFT the paint started to peel off. I carried in my tackle box holographic sticker fish scale to repair them.
Pros
  • Easy to use, many colors, catches fish, good prices
Cons
  • Paint job doesn't hold

Must have tuna and Cubera popper
March 25, 2020
I travel to Costa Rica yearly and this lure is on ever boat and in every tackle box in multiple sizes. The rounded triangular shape of the cup of this plug makes it very unique and helps it to move a lot of water and get the fish going. Top 3 poppers in my collection.
Pros
  • Great design
  • Great action
  • Catches fish
Cons
  • swap out the trebles for large inline hooks

Solid

Nice sense solid little lure, cleaned house on striper last season. Only real recommendation would be to swap atleast the tail hook for an inline single. Definitely helps un hooking when your in a blitz
