NOT YOUR OLD FISHING LINE
January 23, 2022
I have a great deal of saltwater experience with the Gliss fishing line. It is something like dental floss in its light weight, smoothness, and flexibility. It is harder to tie. If your knots won’t stay tied with this product don’t knock the fishing line. After learning how to tie it, the knots are infallible. The main advantage of the this line is that it casts a nautical mile (open water requirement) and has virtually no memory. Not to mention being able to put a league of line on the spool due to it’s greatly reduced diameter. Change your line every season and you will be sorely disappointed with regular braid or mono forever more. There is no comparable product. I am a non-attorney Bubba spokesperson.
Pros
  • Surprising casting distance
  • No braid shriek when reeling in
  • Put twice the line on the same spool
  • Much less line drag when trolling due to thinner diameter
  • Same sensitivity as with any braid - no stretch
Cons
  • These remarks are not actual cons but are intended for professional whiners?.
  • No stretch??soft mouth fish will tear themselves loose where mono would have finessed them in.
  • Not abrasion proof
  • Need to change out the line twice a season
  • Old reliable mono knots may not work. It may be too much trouble for some to learn new ways.
  • It is much like dental floss and is definitely harder to tie in the wind, using old eyes and sausage fingers.

This line, hands down, has the greatest strength-to-diameter ratio of ANY other line. It is not braid; it's fused. It's THERMALLY EXTRUDED (heated&stretched) strands of Dyneema, giving you the thinnest, strongest, smoothest, best casting, most sensitive line on the market. Period. That said, it's NOT for beginners! You MUST tie good knots, avoid hooks with eye gaps, and know how to manage your line. It is extremely thin. I use 18lb (.006") on spinning gear and 40lb (.01") on casting gear. It does tend to fray with heavy use but with 18, 24, and 40lb strength, a little fraying doesn't weaken it much. Also, because it's so thin, knots WILL escape some hook eyes that have gaps. I overcome this by leaving an old palomar knot of mono in the gap. It will also CUT YOU BAD if you're not careful. It casts further than ANY and ALL other lines and the sensitivity is second to none. IMO, the pros FAR outweigh the cons. You will feel more bites than ever before. It really makes you realize how many bites you've been getting all along but just didn't feel. If you're ready to up your game, try it.
Pros
  • Super thin. Super strong. Super sensitive. Extremely manageable. Easy casting. Outcasts ALL other lines by at least 30%. Affordable.
Cons
  • Frays with heavy use/abuse. Requires certain knots. Escapes some hook eye gaps. So thin, it will cut you.

Worthless! Do not buy!

This line breaks very easily and starts to frey on the first cast. I bought the 18 lbs test and it has literally broken while casting. It is not worth even a dollar. I've never had line that breaks so easily. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Pros
  • None
Cons
  • Breaks almost immediately. Can't even hold 5 lbs without breaking with 18 lb line.

I have not used it yet, however spooling my reel with the line really surprised me by how small the diameter of the line actually is compared to braid or mono of the same weight strength.
Pros
  • smaller diameter means more line on the reel
Cons
  • small diameter makes seeing the line when tying knots a little bit difficult (if you have bad eyes)

Amazing....so far.

Using 8 lb. Gliss and cannot believe how smooth this is compared to 5 lb. braid. My casting now is unbelievable. Complete silence when passing through the guides. I use the improved clinch knot, wrapping at least 9 turns before putting through the loop and have not had any knot failures. I always double the line when tying a knot, even when I used braid. So far the characteristics of Gliss have switched me from braid. Time will tell.
Pros
  • Smooth, silent, casting distance, and strength. I thought braid was the only way to go until Gliss became available.
Cons
  • None so far.
