Pencil Popper
A Stan Gibbs original with application in fisheries around the world. This is an aerodynamically beautiful plug to cast and its sleek tapered design simulates many forms of forage fish.
Guide To Fishing Gibbs Lures
The sleek, tapered design with tail weighting will get this plug "out there". From that point on a variety of retrieves will draw strikes. Perhaps the most effective, however, is a retrieve that may take a little practice. Point the rod tip at the plug and induce some rapid up-and-down tip action - not violent but steady, while at the same time reeling slowly to make the plug dance from side to side on the surface.

I got the yellow one and fish love it. The front hook rotates as well so you're less likely to lose fish. I wish they didn't twist the hook on the end so I can swap it to inlines

Reliable

I used the 2 oz. red head for stripers in the surf for about 4 weeks until my knot snapped on a cast and sent it into early retirement. I swapped the trebles for 5/0 singles. This thing had caught me some of the biggest fish of the summer. I ordered another immediately.
Pros
  • Attracts big stripers.
Cons
  • Have to swap out the trebles for singles which are mandatory for striper fishing where I live (Atlantic Canada). In my opinion, singles should be the default hook on most lures anyway. Make anglers choose trebles if they are legal.

Cast far, Bluefish will get them!
April 28, 2020
They cast very far with the right technique, rod, line & reel. So far very hungry bluefish attack them at sunrise. I with the trebles were easier to remove (you have to cut them) as they get rusty if you don't rinse them after a few uses.

Good walk the dog action
April 9, 2020
This review is for the 1oz popper. 1 oz casts great with a medium action rod.
This lure is pretty easy to work and has a good surface action. I'm still trying to figure this lure out and what the ideal conditions for it are, but it has caught me some schoolies.
Pros
  • Good walk the dog action
  • Good casting distance

wish they made the white with red eyes have blue eyes instead, I have one that I think is gibbs and it's something about that blue eye that works better than red maybe it's just a confidence thing

Greta big popper with awesome action. The heavier weight lets you cast it a mile.
