Gibbs Casting Swimmer
Stan Gibbs found designing this plug a challenge because he was looking for an excellent swimming plug without a bulky metal pan. This plug is considered a classic and often referred to as the "Bottle Plug". "When the going gets tough the tough get going" is a phrase that can be applied to this plug. More big fish have succumbed to this lure than any other artificial in the market year after year.
Guide To Fishing Gibbs Lures
More commonly referred to as the "Bottle Plug" this is "Derby Special" due to the "Derby" winners it has been credited with. Not being encumbered with a metal lip allows this plug to really reach the "off beach" rips. The Casting Swimmer is more at home in turbulent water and fast current. William "Doc" Muller best described the correct technique when he coined the phrase "stay in contact with the plug". Pay close attention to what's happening out there and keep the plug working by maintaining tight lines and a steady retrieve as current ebbs and flows. This means you speed up retrieve on wave fronts and slow down on the backside.

Great swimming action. If you like wooden plugs, pick up some of these and the other varieties as soon as you can. These outperform SP and Bombers in certain conditions. Every lure has it's day.

This lure swims very well and make blue fish crazy. I catch a lot of big fish with this lure and it always works for me.

It's a very good lure, but it is harder to keep under the water than Super Strike's Bottle Plug.

This plug does what it's suppose to do; hold in big water and catch fish. Earned a place in my bag.
Pros
  • Digs in nicely.
  • Catches fish.
Cons
  • Since it's wood, the lip gets mashed.

Large profile, Casts like a Rocket

I fished this plug a lot last season, this plug casts like a bullet and the action is excellent, I swapped out the tail hook for a single siwash hook with bucktail tied on which makes this plug look excellent swimming. I don't like that it has 3 hooks so I opted to cut out the center hook and just have the front treble and rear siwash, this gave me less sharp objects to be stabbed by when unhooking fish. The larger fish seem to prefer this when there is a mix of small/ large fish that are feeding on larger bait fish.
Pros
  • Casting
  • Action
Cons
  • Too many trebles
