Gibbs ProSeries Canal Special Lures are a staple when fishing on fast moving water. Thanks to a flattened bottom, the Gibbs ProSeries Canal Special Lure gets on top of the current with ease, maintaining its side to side action. Recommended for use off jetties, big rips, and rivers.

At over 3oz these are heavier plugs for targeting sizeable stripers and other predatory fish. The Pro Series generally includes eyes and upgraded hard-ware from standard Gibbs plugs. They cost more but are ready to throw at, hook, and land trophy bass. The heavy wt. and flat bottom are designed for riding on top of and maintaining the pencil poppers slashing action in heavy currents, such as those found in the Cape Cod Canal. The design is also useful in any other heavy current area or in heavier surf / wave action that results in lots of current sweep along shoreline.
The blue back, white belly has been very productive for me when mullet and herring are present, especially the larger adults seen in the late summer and fall. Mackerel pattern has been the go-to when mackerel are coming in and out of the CCC / canal with the tide - hooking and landing bass up to 28# in a 3-4 kt current.
Pros
  • Hardware
  • Casting distance
  • Slashing action in heavy current / shore sweep
  • Proven color schemes
Cons
  • Price
  • Need to be fished with heavier tackle - but big fish in heavy conditions demands that anyway
