20,000 years ago, the invention of the fish hook marked the beginning of sport fishing. The first hooks were made of wood or bones. As technology improved, so did the hooks. Records show that copper hooks were made in Banchen 7,000 years ago and artificial flies were used in Egypt 4,000 years ago. Fishing was also a popular form of entertainment in ancient China.
Today, modern materials and manufacturing techniques have resulted in hundreds of styles of extremely high quality hooks, designed for specific types of fish and fishing methods.
The methods used in creating Gamakatsu hooks is what makes it so superior to all other brands. First, only the most premium grade of high carbon steel is used. This insures against any blemishes in the metal which can weaken the hook.
Secondly, Gamakatsu has the most advanced tempering system in the world. Every hook is heated to the exact temperature that is perfect for that particular style and size then cooled in oil. Great plastic worm hooks

I've used the 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0 Gamakatsu worm hooks because they work when bass become wary of baits that are fished faster. In a Naples, Florida compound during this past winter, I used these hooks with a strip of 50 lb test mono poked through the eye of the hook and through the worm - with no other weights due extremely dense weeds. Everyone not using this tecknique wa s hung up on weeds; while my hooked worms skittered through the weeds and fished really, really slowly. My reward was 20+ large mouth bass days, and some days 8-10 bass between 4-8 pounds. Use 2/0 & 3/0 for small mouth and smaller bass, while the 4/0 is great for large - large mouth as in Everglades Fishing!

- A great hook for Carolina Rigging, Texas Rigging or just a bare hook and a worm!
Cons
- You must use the 50 lb monofilament line piece through the hook eye and through the worm and if not, a single bite and your worm is gone.
