What exactly is an octopus hook?
I thought an octopus hook is one that has an eye that is tilted back that help with snelling. If so, wouldn't a "Straight Eye Octopus Hook" contradictory?

Hi Tyler, An octopus hook is a short-shank hook that features a round shank and bend, but it's not as dramatic as circle hooks. The tip of the hook is at the same angle as the eye, so that even if you tie a knot directly to the eye, it will still effectively hook into a fish’s mouth. The Gamakatsu Straight Eye Inline Octopus Circle Hooks are an ideal inshore / offshore hook for live bait and chunk baits. The term 'non-offset or inline' means the point and barb are in the same plane as the shank. When the hook is laying on a flat surface, the entire hook and barb should lay flat. Circle hooks are designed to reduce occurrences of "deep/gut hooking." If a fish swallows the bait, the circle hook is designed to slide out from its throat and catch on the corner of its jaw. When a fish is hooked in the corner of its jaw, this also leads to shorter de-hooking times and less overall stress on the fish. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Would these be considered legal under the current striper circle hook regulations? I’ve scene mixed input on the subject.

The Gamakatsu Straight Eye Inline Octopus Circle hook does meet the current regulations the fishing for Striped Bass with bait. Any circle hook that is inline (straight), not offset, is allowed to be used. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
