Gamakatsu Siwash hooks--perfect hooks for sharking! Yes.
October 22, 2013
Yes, we use these hooks (4/0) when we are shark fishing and we know that we are going to release a shark. Why? Well, they are extremely sharp. We use 174# wire leaders (4' trace) after a 130# mono windon leader...We've landed sharks over 300#, but never broken a hook on the rod/drag...when the battle is over, we grab the swivel connecting the wire to the leader and pull hard....the hook straightens out and the shark swims away.. With a pair of pliers, we put the hook back together and repeat the process two more times (then the hook breaks) Easy release!

Hi Tony, I would recommend a Gamakatsu 10015 Siwash Hook 5/0 size. https://www.tackledirect.com/gamakatsu-10015-siwash-hook.html This size would be ideal for a 2oz Gator spoon. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Need to replace treble hooks on Rapala F4 floating minnow for trout. What size siwash to use?
1 Answer
For this particular brand of hook, both 5/0 and the 8/0 would be much too large for a trout lure.
