Built like a truck!
May 17, 2022
This reel is sturdy, reliable, smooth, which gives me confidence. When I go out fishing for rockfish here in Monterey, I take several rods and reels, rigged differently. This reel is my go to, and has never failed. I highly recommend it.
Pros
  • Built strongly, the drags work without fail, reeling up is steady and reliable. It handles a variety of lines and is usable for fishing for lings, rigging for yellow tail and even albacore. The price was reasonable and I'm grateful to have it in my tool box.
Cons
  • It's a large reel so if you're wanting to go small and light, it's not the one.

Great affordable reel
March 9, 2022
I use these reels for bottom fishing in NC. Spooled with 80# braid fishing heavy 16oz bank sinkers with live bait for grouper. I purchased toriums at the advice of my local tackle shop and these reels way outperformed the Toriums and cost much less. Even landed a 250+ lb tiger shark on one trip. Very impressive for what the reel is and cost. You won’t be disappointed.
Pros
  • Cost
  • Weight
  • Durability
Cons
  • Not as pretty as an Avet.

Good reel but the clicker is worthless
May 23, 2016
Good reel overall except for the clicker that failed after third time out. If your fishing without needing to set the clicker it is a smooth and comfortable to use.

Very nice reel

I bought one to try them out and immediately ordered a second one! I mainly fish from the piers for sharks and such and they are great casting reels along with a loud clicker and a great drag. I also fish them on the party boats out of Galveston for snapper and tuna.

I am a muskie fisherman that also makes trips to florida a few times each year. Would you use this reel for muskie? Are there problems with backlash because there is no levelwind? Also does the clutch automatically engage to begin reeling?
1 Answer
I would not use this reel for muskie fishing as it is not designed for constant cast and retrieval. I would recommend a large baitcasting reel with adjustable spool tension and a breaking system. This will allow you to adjust the settings on the reel to allow for better casting distance while helping to avoid backlashes. Turning the handle while in free spool does not engage the reel.

Is the LTC 16 suitable for a 30lb mono topshot? It's only rated for 20lb mono?
1 Answer
Hello Javon. Absolutely. The 20lb. measurement shown in the item description is just to give you an idea of how much line you can fit on that reel. It will handle a 30lb. top shot with no problem. Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions!

Do you recommend these reels for tuna/yellowtail?
1 Answer
Hello Javon. Yes this would be a great reel for tuna and yellowtail fishing. The model you choose would be based on your rod, line weight, and targeted fish size. But overall this reel will suit you just fine! Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions!

I am considering the purchase of one of the lethal star drag reels(size to be determined later) and would like to know if this is a level wind reel? I see the arbor on each side of the spool and was wondering if this was Fin-Nor's design to level the line on the spool, thanks for your information
1 Answer
No. These are not level wind reels.
