Turn your fishing rod into an outrigger!

The E-Z Out-Rodder has been tested by professional guides used since 2004 with wire line for Striped Bass and Bluefish, as well as for Tuna and White Marlin in the canyons. The E-Z Out-Rodder has also been extremely successful in Canada for Salmon and huge Lake Trout, and in Florida for Wahoo and Sailfish.
  • Insert into any flush mount rod holder.
  • Positions rod out and away from boat.
  • Rod holder is hinged to adjust rod position from horizontal to vertical in seconds.
  • Cover more water, avoid tangles, create a wider spread for drift or trolled baits.
  • Safer than ordinary rod holders - no more leaning over gunwale to remove rod.
  • Package contains two E-Z Out-Rodder rod holders.
The E-Z Out-Rodder is constructed of marine grade, brushed anodized aluminum and locks into any standard gunwale mounted rod holders, making it totally portable from boat to boat. Maintenance is easy, simply wash with soap and water after each use and put a coat of aluminum polish on at the end of the season.

Unlike the standard Out Rod holder which is fixed in a horizontal position, the E-Z Out-Rodder is hinged so that it can be easily lifted upright into a vertical position. You don’t have to struggle anymore when removing your rod from the E-Z Out-Rodder, as you would with a standard rod holder. When a fish is hooked, simply pull out the safety pin and bring the rod holder to an uprigt position. Lift the rod out of the holder and reel in the fish.

How to use the E-Z Out-Rodder

E-Z Out-Rodder - How to Use
Step 1:
Place the E-Z Outrodder in the gunwhale mount rodholder.
Step 2:
Place fishing rod in the E-Z Outrodder and lock in gimble. (You should always use a safety line at least 6 feet in length from your reel to your cleat.)
Step 3:
When a fish is hooked, grab your rod and pull gently toward you and release the pin.
E-Z Out-Rodder - How to Use
Step 4:
Lift the rod and E-Z Outrodder to a vertical position.
Step 5:
Lift the rod out of the E-Z Outrodder with a slight pull towards you and reel in the fish.

Nice but -
February 13, 2019
Really nice machined aluminum product which looks like it will hold up for a long while.
Only had them out once so far but wanted to share a couple of things that you need to know / do before you head out with these.
First - get rid of the mono safety lines for the pins which maintain the holders in the deployed or up and down positions and replace them with nylon covered wire leader cable.
Second - Lubricate the pins mentioned above. They are a tight fit and any corrosion at all and they don't want to come out of hole. After one use in saltwater, rinsed with fresh water at end of day, enough salt or aluminum corrosion build up caused pins to be stuck in place. When they finally worked loose the safety line popped. (see first suggestion)
Third - It is not obvious at first but the outrodders are side specific. If you look carefully, one is marked with an S for starboard and the other is marked with a P for port. They work much better on the correct side.
Fourth - You definitely will need rod leashes to feel comfortable fishing these. I just used some parachute cord with one end noosed over reel base and a loop over the outrodder.

Great Alternative to Outriggers
September 7, 2017
I was looking for a way to spread my lines while fishing offshore in the Keys. Since I have a 24' bay boat, I really wanted to avoid the cost of adding big/expensive outriggers to the t-top. Found these online, did some research and bought them. Spent a month in Key Largo and was able to get offshore quite a bit, so I really put these to the test. They didn't spread the lines as much as I'd imagined, but with 7' rods they got the job done. Allowed me to run up to 5 lines on my trolling setup. Easy to use in transition, even with the chaos of triple mahi hook-up, which was good since most of the time it was just my wife and me on board. She also found them very functional and easy to use which of course made me happy...happy wife, happy life. Only reason for 4 star rating is lack of rod leash being included because they are absolutely necessary to prevent potential loss of gear, especially in rough water. I bought parachute cord and clips from K-Mart and made my own rigs (see pic), which saved my a** from losing gear twice for sure. Highly recommend this product and TackleDirect.
Pros
  • Economical
  • Sturdy
  • Ease of use/functionality
Cons
  • Rod leash not included

Powder coating made it perfect
November 24, 2016
Without a doubt, the best gunnel mounted rod holder on the planet. The only thing I had to do to make it perfect was to have them powder coated to match the boat.

EZ Outrodder
May 23, 2016
Nice item, solidly built. Remember to keep the drag in a somewhat light setting, A locked down drag has the potential to bend the outrodder.
Pros
  • Does what it is designed to do.
Cons
  • Aluminum material has the potential to bend in a heavy drag scenario...
