It is as describe and very smooth. Can't wait to try it out !
Pros
  • Very smooth and it did not make clicking sound while the line is being pull out. That is the difference when I compare it to shimano Calcutta TE.
Cons
  • The cliker sound vey weak !

I choose the reel over a shimano for flounder fishing. Its perfect! solid built and has held up well. Upgraded the handle and there isn't much it cant handle.

Absolutely terrible saltwater reel!
June 15, 2018
Had mine for a year and so did a friend (bought at the same time). Within the first month had a grinding in the ball bearings. I don't do any beach fishing at all so i assumed that i got salt inside of it and cleaned it to no avail. A week later my friend's reel started doing the same. Now both of these reels were thoroughly cleaned after each use. Luckily another friend of ours knew a Daiwa rep., and we got all of the internals replace for free. Upon receiving it the worked great.....for about a month again..... I went as far as to replace the "sealed" ball bearings inside with ceramic ones i bought online, which did help, but has not totally absolved the issue with their crappy bearings grinding and locking up.
Pros
  • none at all.
Cons
  • REALLY BAD customer service. Had to go through a friend of a friend to get any service. Reels came back and were messed up again in the blink of an eye. Once again, really bad customer service.

better than Calcutta D

I have Calcutta D 200 and 200B, Luna TD is much better than those.
smooth, clicker, durable, and high end reel feel.
I was happy with paddle handle, but when I upgraded it to power handle, this reel become different.
more powerful and handles much bigger fish than you expect.
Pros
  • smooth, clicker, durable
Cons
  • expensive, paddle handle

This is my second reel. Expensive, and worth it

Super smooth. Adjustable casting brakes really work and really are adjustable. Great finish. Very smooth cranking. Holds a decent amount of llne. I use it with mono, but I suspect it would work well for braid.
Reminder: The TD Luna 300 is nice too, and a bit wider, but no adjustable casting brake.
Pros
  • Smooth. Great finish. Good drag. Nice gear ratio. Adjustable casting brake.
Cons
  • Price

One of the best baitcasters made by Daiwa.

Right in the middle between entry reels ( ABU C3 and C4) and high end reels (Shimano Conquest ). Very good value for the money, very versatile reels for mid/heavy freshwater applications.
Pros
  • High quality reel
Cons
  • for someone with small hands can be considered as somehow difficult to palm

How much 50# braid will this hold?
2 Answers
Most 50 lb. braid is equivalent to a 12 lb mono diameter, so we suggest going by the line ratings for 12lb test.
Submitted by: Devon on April 14, 2017
Size 253 will fit 235 yards of 50 lb braid and the size 300 can fit 320 yards of 50 lb braid.
