Great reel for the money
June 25, 2019
Used this reel to catch Golden Tiles. The reel handled 2 at a time (15-20lb's) with no struggle at all. Im not sure you can find a better electric reel for the price. Our crew plans on buying more of them. Paired it with the Diawa TNB66HF-DD and 65lb Diawa J-Braid. This combo worked great.
Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Plastic gear lever seems like it may eventually be the weak point of this reel.

Great reel needs more line capacity
December 19, 2018
I have two of these great value reels which we use for deep dropping and running a dredge. With a little more drag and line capacity this would be outstanding as it is great value compared to the remainder of the electric reel market. Great product - oh but the manual sucks nd we haven’t had either reel long enough to report on long term reliability
Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • The manual sucks
  • More line capacity

April 7, 2018
I bought 2 reels spooled them up with 80lb daiwa j line and used them once so far and they worked perfectly! I I didn't bother learning the function yet but it's easy to use. I used a 3lb lead and dropped between 80-150 fathoms that's 480-900 feet deep and caught 2 8-10 pound fish on one of the drops and the reels worked perfectly. My friend hads this reel for over 8 years and most use was on a jet ski and never had any issues and never had to service it. yet.
Pros
  • Light
  • Good Price
  • Easy to use

I am very interested in purchasing this reel from you. I live in Australia. Does the warranty cover the reel in Australia? Also, when I went to purchase it indicated that there would be duties and taxes of approximately US$200+ and I was asked whether I wanted to pay these up front or on delivery. Why are there these duties and taxes? As you can understand, if I had to pay these it is not worth my while purchasing the reel from you. Regards Paul
1 Answer
Hello Paul, no matter what part of the world your in the warranty will always cover your reel. As for the duties and taxes this would apply to nearly all International orders.

Yair,

The Daiwa Tanacom 1000 can be used from shore as long as you are kayaking or somehow getting your bait out to where the fish are.  It can handle fish up to 90 ponds, but better suited for fish 50 pounds or less.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

what is the difference between the tanacom 1000 and the 750
1 Answer
William,

The Tanacom 1000 and Tanacom 750 are extremely similar reels, but the biggest differences will be size and line capacity. Best to treat the 750 as a narrow spool version of the 1000. For 80lb braid, the 1000 will be able to hold roughly an additional 300 yards, which would make it ideal for hitting your really deep bottom fishing numbers for tilefish, queen snapper, and other deep dwellers. The 750 size is ideal if you are wanting to get into deep dropping with an electric reel while still holding the setup in hand rather than fishing it directly out of a rod holder since it is about 10oz lighter than the 1000. Max drag, gear ratio, the English reading LCD display, and an oversized line guide are found on both models, making each model quite versatile for both deep dropping and kite fishing. If you have any other specific questions about these electric reels, please let us know!

Can you daytime swordfish with this reel? not what we will primarily be using this reel for but when we get the weather it would be cool to try.
1 Answer
We do not advise using the Tanacom for Swordfish. The motor is simply not powerful enough and would be prone to overheating and failure. Electric reels suitable for daytime Swords are the Shimano Beastmaster, LP's, or Hooker Electric reels.

What measurement is best to define the power an electric reel has to lift fish from drops over 500 feet? Would that be max drag? Some other measurement? What is the difference in 'pulling power' between the Tanacom Bull 1000 and the Tanacom 1000?
1 Answer
Hello Lee, I got into contact with Diawa and they do not have a exact lifting weight, They have a max drag weight of 48 pounds. The only difference between the Tanacom 1000 and the Bull 1000 is that the bull has a Japanese user interface.

This is a case where you get more for your money by spending less. The Tanacom 1000 is the way to go. Both reels have the same line capacity, drag, retrieve rate, and motor. The Bull's readout is in Japanese, where the 1000 is in English!
