Got the 1000 size to run as a panfish reel. Put it on a uglystik 4'6" UL pole and it's been a blast to fish with. Almost a year use without any maintenance and still like new.
Pros
  • Cheap
Cons
  • Plastic parts

Decent for the price

I used a size 1000 for creek wading on an ultralight. Overall, it did a good job with plenty of use for about a year, and landed some fish far above its pay grade. However, it did start to have some issues after a little less than a year of use. On occasion, the line would not lay correctly and would get caught up under the spool, and soon after the bail spring broke. If you need a reel to take a beating, I would say you get about what you pay for with $15 here.

For such a low price tag this really really performs well. I've used in fresh and saltwater and it has held well. If you're looking for a reel that is cheap but versatile this is a great one.

Can I add a size 8 mono to this reel?

If yes which mono as I like TRILENE.

1 Answer
Unfortunately the SF1000-B is not rated for 8lb test and I wouldn't recommend putting on this reel.
