my first time buying an Avet reel. Going to test it out in FL this spring. rod appears well made, although compared to my temple reef elevate it is like a broom stick. I'll follow up after spring fishing with rod function.
Pros
  • good price point
Cons
  • I don't think this rod is for slow pitch jigging, will see.

Avet MXL is a monster, but the rods dont hold up
January 9, 2022
I bought two of these setups and loaded them both with 50lb braid and use them for vertical jigging. They have a great action and are comfortable to use, but I have had both rods snap while hooked up to prize fish now. Need to put down some heat when trying to get a big AJ past the sharks in the keys and the reel is up to the task, but the rod cant take it. First one broke the first time I hooked up on it and lost that fish. Second one broke a few months later, but still landed my PB AJ with it. Love the reel, don't love the rod. Should be said, Tackle Direct did honor the warranty with no fuss on the first rod, haven't tried on the second yet.
Pros
  • Great Reel
  • good action in the rod
Cons
  • Rods don't hold up when something serious gets on the line

Great combo
June 13, 2021
Great jigging combo. Used it to fish some butterfly jigs for snapper and was awesome. Super sensitive rod could feel every bit. Reel is my second avet it is a very smooth operating reel. Lots of drag and like how it has more then free, bait, strike, and full settings that the Gen 1 has.
Pros
  • Price quality and how fast it got to me
Cons
  • Eyes are a little small. Was little hard to get the line out with my Bimini twist to the Albright knot for my shock leader.

I have fished several combos and this may be the best. The pole is extremely versatile and the reel is a wench. The fish don’t stand a chance. I fished with 6 ounces and the feel was truly exceptional.
Pros
  • Responsive feel and balanced
Cons
  • None

GREAT COMBO
November 13, 2018
THIS A GREAT BALANCED COMBO ! TOOK IT OUT BOTTOM FISHING AND HAD A GREAT DAY. THE SHIMANO TORIUM 16 PG VERY SMOOTH AND WITH THE 4.6 1 RATIO GIVES A GOOD HOOK SET WHEN PAIRED WITH THE SILVER TACKLEDIRECT ROD.
Pros
  • NICE LIGHT STRONG COMBO JUST RIGHT FOR BOTTOM FISHING IN THE NORTHEAST. THE SHIMANO TORIUM 16 PG VERY SMOOTH STRONG REEL . SHIMANO KNOWS IT BUSINESS.
Cons
  • ROD BUTT END NEEDS ABOUT 6 INCHES TO FIT SNUG UNDER YOUR ARM.

is this pole and real good for bottom fishing in 300 foot of water with 16 ounces of sinker weight on for pollock

Hi Dene, The rod for the Daiwa SALTIST 35H / TackleDirect TDSCJ66MH Conventional Jigging Combo would be too light for that application. I would recommend a Okuma CJ-C-561XXHA Cedros A Series Rod and a Daiwa SALTIST35H Saltist Star Drag Conventional Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/okuma-cj-c-561xxha-cedros-a-rod.htmlhttps://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-saltist35h-saltist-star-drag-conventional-reel.html This would be ideal for your bottom fishing applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
