THIS REEL, made me a Daiwa Fan!
May 31, 2014
Wanted a "step-up" from the super durable Shimano TR-100G, that I use for all my charter reels. I wanted a power handle, a star drag with a clicking adjustment, a super tough levelwind, all aluminum. That I can cast jigs with, rip a giant top water plug with, and be a "personal reel".
Pros
  • The bench mark for me as I said above was the Shimano TR-100G work horse conventional level-wind, star drag reel in which I have 16 of, and use daily for charter fishing with customers. But wondered if there was a step up out there in reel land, that wasn't terribly expensive, and would suit my days of personal fishing.
  • YES THERE IS! And the saltist H-C is durable as any with so many features that I was in the need for.
  • And now, I'm a DAIWA guy! These HC reels have made a Fan outa me!
  • Clicking adjustment star drag
  • AUTO-ENGAGING.....with a 1/2 turn of the massive reel handle!!!!!!!!
  • Bullet-proof, almost over sized level wind mechanism
  • Loads of bearings for super smooth operation
  • AND...........6.1-1 GEAR RATIO!
  • Yes a heavy duty saltwater contender, that feels like a MANS reel in your hands.
  • Please cut & paste this Url to Youtube to watch my full review comparing the Saltist H-C to my other reels: http://youtu.be/A1hjY8ZmzbA
Cons
  • NOT A ONE I CAN FIND, SO FAR. After months of heavy saltwater fishing.

I own the salltist BG and it is the one best reel out there for casting and surf fishing. Since then i decided to go with the neww saltist levelwind as an inshore reel. Would like to match up with a 12 foot Penn Carnage casting rod 4-10 oz.

Would this balance out?

1 Answer

Hello Mr Taylor

After putting that reel on the 12 foot rod I would go to 30 size one
