Brilliantly engineered to dominate in any and all blue water environments, the Daiwa Saltiga LD Lever Drag Conventional Reels are the most comprehensive series of lever drag reels to ever hit the market. Smooth, powerful, and ultimately dependable, the Saltiga LD achieves performance marks that are nothing short of miraculous. Featuring six single-speed models, ten two-speed models, and two special-purpose tournament style sailfish reels, there's a reel to fit the needs of saltwater anglers in any fishery. The Saltiga LD is built around a single-piece machined aluminum frame and side plate to assure precise alignment of bearings and gears for astoundingly smooth performance, less flex, more power, and reduced binding even during the fiercest battles. Also machined from solid aluminum is the spool, which will never bend or deform under heavy drag pressures and resists outward expansion so you can tightly wind both braid and monofilament lines with the confidence. Smoothness is preserved over time with the incorporation of all Corrosion Resistant Ball-Bearings (CRBB). At the reel's core is a set of oversized, extremely durable stainless steel gears perfectly meshed together to execute extreme power transfer with silent precision. Anglers can expect powerful, smooth drags thanks to Daiwa's acclaimed Advanced Tournament Drag (ATD) system with proprietary grease that helps keep the reel cool during those long drawn out runs by massive game fish.

All single-speed and smaller two-speed models, along with the high-speed tournament sailfish reels, boast soft-touch rubber handles for fast, comfortable retrieves. The larger size 50, 55 and 60 2-speed models feature a long "T" style offset aluminum power handle to improve leverage and comfort without blistering your hand when the fight is on. Built with jigging in mind, the SAGDL35JH features a narrower spool and more compact frame, making it lighter weight and more comfortable for use during long jigging sessions. All models feature a substantial spool clicker that is loud enough to be heard as a strike indicator, but is not overbearing. Max drag ranges from 22 to 45 pounds for most models while line retrieve per handle turn runs from 39.9" to 47". The tournament style sailfish models (SAGLD50HS and SAGLD60H) have a more finely adjustable drag curve and a max drag setting of 22 pounds, making them ideal for use with circle hooks and lighter monofilament lines. These are high speed models with retrieval speeds of up to 56" per handle turn.

Daiwa Technology Found in Saltiga LD Conventional Reels:

  • Aluminum Body - Lightweight and incredibly strong, aluminium allows strength and weightlessness to be achieved without the cost and corrosion issues of other metals.
  • DigiGear - The all-new DigiGear is precision machine cut and polished. This results in unmatched efficiency, better transfer of energy, and maximum smoothness.
  • Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearings - Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearings boast a lifespan up to 12 times longer than traditional stainless steel bearings.
  • ATD Drag - The Advanced Tournament Drag system uses a new proprietary grease that enables the reel to apply smooth and consistent start up drag pressure from the first pull, eliminating the stop and go pulling of drag that can result in broken lines and lost fish.

Hi Paul, The Daiwa SAGLD35H Saltiga LD Lever Drag Conventional Reel has a line capacity that is larger than Ocea Jigger 2000 size but smaller than the Ocea Jigger 4000 size. Currently there is no Shimano Ocea Jigger 3000 size reel at this time. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What is the best rod to pair with the LD40?
1 Answer
Depending on your fishing application, I would recommend either a Daiwa SLTGJ70MHB Saltiga Jigging Conventional Rod or a Daiwa STT56HF-QRS Saltist Trolling Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-sltgj70mhb-saltiga-jigging-conventional-rod.htmlhttps://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-stt56hf-qrs-saltist-trolling-rod.html Both of these would be great options whether your bottom fishing, jigging, or trolling for pelagic species like tuna. Using 50lb mono top shot and 50lb braid backing, how much can I fit on the 50 size
1 Answer
Hi Nik, According to Daiwa, the Daiwa SAGLD50HS Saltiga LD Lever Drag Conventional Reel has a line capacity of Jbraid 8X strand of 50lb/780yds and Jbraid 4X strand 50lb/815 yds. You should be able to hold a minium of about 500 yards of braided line on the reel with about 100 yards of 50lb mono topshot. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Blaise
from Toms River, NJ asked:
October 27, 2021
Does the 50 size 2speed come with the bigger power handle like the 60 size does?
1 Answer
Hi Blaise, According to Daiwa, Model: SAGL50-2SPD and Model: SAGLD60-2SPD both have the same handle knob. However, the Saltiga 50 LD 2speed has a shorter handle length than the Saltiga 60 LD 2 Speed. Due to the drag configuration of the 2 speed models, a Saltiga 60 LD 2 speed handle will not fit onto the Daiwa Saltiga 50 LD 2 speed model. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
