Daiwa Saltiga Bay Jigging Reels utilize a one-piece Monocoque body construction to ensure a more rigid build with a better sealing mechanism. With strength being such an important feature for larger reels, a solid base is the single most important component. To this end, the Saltiga Bay Jigging Reel's gears are embedded in the one-piece Monocoque body, whereas previous models featured a side cover/plate to hold the gearing in place.

Daiwa Saltiga Bay Jigging Reel Features:

  • One-Piece Aluminum Frame (Monocoque Body)
  • Hyper Digigear
  • Magsealed
  • Air Rotor
  • Air Bail
  • DigiGear
  • ABS Spool
  • Infinite Anti-Reverse

Smooth as silk....
August 19, 2018
Well, I started off with a Van Stall Vsx150, couldn't believe how bad it felt for $750. So I actually returned it after 24 hours and got my shop to order this Saltiga BJ4000. And I can definitely say i dont regret it one bit. I am extremely critical of reels of every manufacture but this one is as close as it gets to perfect. This reel is smooth as silk on the retrieve, and on the fight (w/snook, tarpon, and a couple big jacks). The drag is nice and consistent. Love the handle knob. Plenty of line capacity. I have a Daiwa Ballistic LT6000 and this BJ4000 are about identical in size, but I'm pretty sure the BJ has a bigger main gear. Both the Ballistic and the Saltic BJ4000 are smaller than the typical daiwa saltwater reels of same size. Fished this reel side by side with my friends 6000 Stella and I cannot believe the Stella actually costs(much) more. Feels worlds better than a Staal, much better than a Torque, better than a Stella, and definitely better than anything else of less or more of cost. Plus made in Japan . Closest to perfection you can get.

  • Powerful
  • Big main gear

It's everything you expect in a saltiga for its precise engineering. One of the smoothest reels out on the market and im typically your shimano fan but phew Daiwa makes some crazy reels

What does Dual Retrieve mean? How many yards of 30lb Max Cuatro can the 4000 hold, and would it be ideal for yellowfin tuna up to #30?

Thank you

Dual retrieve means you can switch the handle you retrieve with on either side of the reel. You will get 220 yards of 30 lb braid on the 3500 size. On the 4000 you will get 270 yards of 30 lb braid. This reel would not be ideal for YFT. Inshore species primarily.
