Love this reel
January 22, 2020
Absolutely love this reel. Great for trolling but can also cast with it. Great all around set up for offshore. It can handle anything I throw at it wither that be trolling, bottom fishing, or casting with it. It does it all not to mention the 2 speed gearing and also the drag it puts out.
Pros
  • 2 speed, line capacity, drag and it just looks badass
Cons
  • I only have one

Anti reverse is garbage
June 8, 2019
I have used several Saltiga and Saltist lever drag 2 speeds in various sizes. I am not a weekend angler. I commercial fish and run some head boats. If you fish these hard the anti reverse WILL fail at the most inoportune times. They are there one moment and then gone. Shot. Diawa customer service is horrible. They make no attempt to fix the problem or make it right. I have since switched to Shimano Talicas IIs. They don't feel quite as nice but they hold up and Shimano Service Department is a dream.
Pros
  • Nice feeling,smooth and powerful
Cons
  • They Fail. The anti reverse just quits. Terrible actually.

A super great smooth casting reel of fine, fine quality.

Having used my SALD20-2 Speed Leverdrag reel for about a year now, I can tell you that it is the smoothest retrieving, easiest cranking lever drag reel I have ever owned. My most memorable moment was when I caught a 32 lb striper and was tiring when bringing him in. I clicked the low gear button and the reel turned into an absolute muscle machine. I don't think I could have gotten the striper in without either the low gear or some help from my brother. Now, wouldn't that have been embarrassing? Yes, give me the Daiwa SALD-20 2-Speed anytime, I just love it!!
Pros
  • Esthetically beautiful
  • Exceptionally smooth retrieve
  • mega powerful low gear
  • the quality of this reel is quite evident
Cons
  • Price. What's a few bucks anyway? Give up dinner with your wife a few times to overcome this, which is the only con I could find. She'll never miss it, and this reel will last a lifetime.

If you like to fish and fish hard, this reel is for you! Purchased one at the beginning of the season and will now be replacing all my conventional reels with the Saltiga. Looks great. Feels great. And the lever drag system is unreal. I have nothing bad to say about this product. Thank you Daiwa & Tackle Direct!

Which 2 speed model would be best for halibut? Usually 300 yards line fishing 3-400 feet

Hello Randy. The Daiwa SALD35-2SPD Saltiga 2-Speed Lever Drag Reel would be a good option fishing for halibut. This reel would have enough line capacity and the full max drag is 40 lbs

Hi,I want to purchase the Daiwa 50-2spd lever drag, but it comes with a centrifical casting brakes system. Does it influence casting negatively and and will someone loose distance when casting.
1 Answer
The casting brakes are adjustable, so if you don't need them you can turn them off. They also really help to diminish the chances of backlash. They will not affect your distance if you set them properly.
