not cheap but amazing reel
September 11, 2016
Bought this reel back in the winter and have used it all summer. Smoothest drag system of any reel I've ever owned. i have the 2500 size and use it for backwater striper fluke and tog. Don't let the pretty looks fool you this reel is tough. i will be buying many more daiwa products after my experience with this reel.
Pros
  • lots of drag for a small reel
  • extremely silky smooth drag system
  • looks great
  • tough
  • very light weight
  • comfortable handle
Cons
  • not one

Nice reel but has limitations
November 7, 2015
I have used this reel as a light surf set up for Stripers to keeper size. I have caught a decent amount of fish with it until I got into a bite a few weeks back and while I was using it I noticed a significant change in the smoothness of the reel. I also began to hear squeaking. I sent it in for service since it is under the warranty and Daiwa sent it back to me a few weeks later only for me to resend. The reel is still not fixed. I'm guessing the main shaft or something to do with the spool is bent or out of alignment.

It's a nice reel and would recommend it for Fluke but would not recommend it for smaller Bass or Blues.
Pros
  • Casts very well.
  • Smooth (before it broke)
Cons
  • Gears aren't that strong since they were already replaced

For the price, it is the best reel you can get. It is very smooth and light for the amount of line it holds. I like this reel a lot.

any info about gear material (alumunium or cast zinc like BG?)

Magseal like the BG and aluminum body design. Great reel unfortunately discontinued though.
