Daiwa lexa 4000sh
September 30, 2018
Poor quality. Bought this last summer (2017) and used it four times. Used it this summer (2018) five times. Two major issues. One the bail will not reset after casting 50 percent of the time. Two and the most important. The reel when reeling in is tight and difficult to reel in. Thought she line was stuck, opened it up and nothing wrong. It is smooth in reverse but would not work in forward motion as it should. Have cleaned and oiled it every time due to using in brackish water. Stored inside too. Very disappointed. My wife oked this buy for my birthday and now it seems a anor waste if $120. Beware
Cons
  • Poor bail and reel motions

  • Bail closes sharp on the first crank
  • Good Line capacity
  • Compact for its size class

great reel, one minor hiccup
July 17, 2017
reel has been great so far, has handled stripers to high 30 pound class and many jumbo blues. smooth and strong drag. only complaint is that the line lay doesn't come onto the spool evenly anymore.. not sure if a result of use or from a manufacturer/design error. in the end, great reel, just one little nuisance.

Excellent inshore reel with plenty of drag.

I now have four Lexa spinning reels. It's a great inshore reel with 17 lbs of drag. Have caught California yellowtail up to 25 lbs.
Pros
  • Great price, good drag and above average corrosion resistance.
Cons
  • 4000 is the largest size Daiwa makes in this model

Great reel, very smooth.

Great reel, comparing to Shimano that is $50 more, slightly heavier than similar 3000 reels. It does hold more line than my other 3000 reels. Be careful when you put line on to get the twist out or it is easily trapped under the open spool sides. Very good drag. Paired w/ Dobyln 7'2" worm rod.
Pros
  • solid construction, holds more line, good value for price.
Cons
  • 2 oz. heavier than shimano or Lews in similar price range. open side under the spool, can eat any loose line.

I've owned my lexa for three years and it's never let me down. I use it for Spanish mackeral and blue fish mostly, but have caught tons of different fish with it from bass to flounder. The reel has pleny of drag and is super smooth, plus light enough to fish all day.
Pros
  • Durable powerful light weight smooth all around reel.
Cons
  • Non

Very smooth out of the box, Enough drag for stripers, trout, and redfish. Can't wait to take it out on the water! Paired it up with a 7'6" salt striker medium rod, very balanced combo.

Are any of the reel parts corrosion resistant, or should extra care be taken when inshore fishing with this reel? Also, how many yards of 20/30 lb. braid will fit on a 3000 size reel? Daiwa has only given ratings in mono filament lines, and i can't seem to find any further information on their home page.

Should get 240/30 and 300/20. Should definitely take extra care with it. Submerge it in 5 gallon pail filled with cool fresh water and soak it for 5 minutes. Turn the handle while it is submerged a couple of times. Remove it, spin the handle and wipe it down with a clean towel.
