Perfect for a variety of bait fishing applications, the Daiwa Emcast LT Bite n' Run Spinning Reels are the first "live-liner" or "bait-runner" reels built on Daiwa's LT Light and Tough platform. The Emcast LT features a secondary drag system that can be engaged while live or chunk bait is in the water that significantly reduces drag pressure, allowing the fish to run after taking the bait. By flipping the rear switch or simply turning the handle, the reel then reengages the primary Advanced Tournament Drag System where up to 26 pounds of smooth drag pressure will work to put the brakes on the target. This method of bait fishing is significantly more effective that simply opening the bail or loosening the primary drag with multiple rotations of the front drag knob. Built with Daiwa's Light and Tough concept, the Emcast LT features a lightweight and highly rigid carbon body and rotor, making it one of the lightest live-lining spinning reels on the market. Available in sizes ranging from 2500 to 5000, there are models suitable for both fresh and saltwater live bait anglers in a wide range of environments.

Features:

  • Bite N' Run Style Drag System
  • LT Light & Tough Concept
  • Carbon Light Body
  • Air Rotor
  • Machined Aluminum Handle
  • Advanced Tournament Drag (ATD)

I purchased this reel for surf fishing and it has been excellent. I also use this reel for live bait fishing in fresh water the bite and run feature is awesome and this reel has plenty of drag compared to other brands.

The description indicates an aluminum spool. Other vendor websites indicate a composite spool for this model. The Daiwa corporate website does not specify spool material. Can you confirm that the spool is made of aluminum?
1 Answer
The spool is indeed a aluminum spool the body of the reel is made of composite material.

So I have been doing a lot of surf fishing and this reel interests me because if you are tending to another rod and get a strike on one 20 feet away sometimes reaching the rod getting action in beach sand isn't so easy and it causes missed fish so my question is does the Emcast Bite n' Run feature work like the Shimano bait runner Strike feature. So that when you disengage the spool it has a separate drag that can be increased so fast striking fish cant back lash the spool?
1 Answer
Hi Trike, According to Daiwa, The Daiwa Emcast LT Bite n' Run Spinning Reels have both a top main drag and a bait drag or live liner drag which can be adjusted when you are in a live bait mode to prevent backlashes and to better detect bites. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

You can certainly use this real in saltwater, just be sure to hose off after every use!

Why is the emcast line capacity rated much lower than similar sized daiwa reels? The difference is huge.

1 Answer
The Emcast has very similar specs to the other Daiwa LT reels like the Daiwa Fuego LT and the Daiwa Exist LT. It depends which reel you are comparing it to. Some are built with different features and spool sizes for specific reasons and techniques.
