Reel binds when retrieved - two uses only.
December 22, 2018
I used the reel twice for surf fishing. During retrieval, the reel would bind and would almost be impossible to reel in. Tackle Direct would not replace but deferred me to Diawa. It was out of Diawa warranty period. A very expensive two use reel. Disappointed.

Smooth Reel
October 30, 2018
Very smooth reel. Casts very far when matched up with a good rod such as a St. Croix mojo. If you are throwing plugs for a couple hours it is bit on the heavy side. Feels more like a 7000 size. I also found an issue with the bail hitting the reel in typical release area. If you can work around that you will enjoy the pluses

Good But Heavy
April 25, 2016
Reel is much larger than a normal 5500 reel would be which is not a huge problem for my specific use, but could be a major issue if you were using this reel to cast plugs or bucktails for a long period of time. Size is probably closer to a 7000 or 8000. Also have encountered a problem where the bail won't fully open when the line guide is directly over the reel grip. It will appear to be open but not be fully "clicked" open and will close upon casting, often causing a broken line and a lost lure. I've been able to work around both problems, but for a $200 reel, I would expect better. Other than that, drag is smooth and features work well
