The all new for 2019 Daiwa Tanacom 500 Power Assist Reel is a new size offering in the Dendoh Reel lineup for the US market. Weighing in at only 28.2oz, this reel will allow anglers to use electric reels for new applications such as bunker spoon trolling, light wreck fluking, and more. While this reel is super light, it is also extremely powerful with 33lbs of drag that allows it to still be used for targeting tilefish and other deep water dwellers. Its variable speed control and jigging mode feature also makes this reel even more versatile than other electric reels.

is the tanacom 500 capable for jersey tile fish.if so should i go to lighter braid for line capacity
1 Answer
Yes, you'll want a greater line capacity so a thinner line diameter would be best for this reel or going up to a 750 tanacom

Is there a portable battery that can be attached to the anglers belt  instead of or in addition to the boat battery? I ask because if I fish on a party boat or the big one goes wild on a private boat, I can chase it around the boat .

Hi Neal, We do not carry any portable battery packs for the daiwa tanacom reels. How long does the battery pack last under normal usage and how long does the battery back take to recharge?
1 Answer
This reel takes 12v DC power only and is to be connected to an external battery pack. A full recharge can be anywhere between 6-24hrs depending on the battery. As far as usage you should get a full day out of a battery but it will always be good to ensure you keep a backup fully charged just in case.

Is the motor on the Tanacom 500 the same as the 750?

This is information that Daiwa does not provide the public. i would guess the motors in the 760-1000 models to be different than the 500 size

Would this reel be good for grouper in a 150’ of water?

Is the spool aluminum?

Is reel made for saltwater?

Can you use portable battery pack?

Is cord included?

If battery pack can’t be used what model of battery to get 8 hours of fishing time?

1 Answer
This reel would be a great option for grouper in 150' of water. Less drag than the 750 or 1000 sizes, but it still puts out 33lbs Max Drag and will have plenty of line capacity for 150'. The spool is anodized aluminum, and yes this reel was surely made for saltwater use. A portable battery pack can be used but if you are able to hook up directly to a deep cycle marine battery even better. The reel comes with a cord in the box fixed with alligator clips.
