Super impressed with the smoothness of this reel. I use this bad boy for top water frogs and swimbaits for snooks and reds. Definitely gets the job done at a decent price!
Pros
  • Reels smooth, casts smooth, and has a super smooth drag
Cons
  • The brake system has to be cleaned very often or you will be hearing noises when casting. Simple to clean though

used it for speckled trout and reds when I was in NC. The knobs provide a really nice grip when you really hook into a big fish. the reel has held up really well in the salt environment

I’ve used this reel for two seasons for flounder, bluefish and stripers and it’s been flawless. Great casting and smooth retrieve under any kind of load. Paired with a Star seagis it feels like a light freshwater setup, but it has the muscle to handle just about anything.

I have fished this reel pretty hard the last 2 seasons....Always rinsed her off after every outing.Took her wade fishing last summer and she took a bath.Sounds stupid to some but not the reel tech,I always rinse my rods off in the shower....Tech took her apart and said "Keep doing what your doing reel is spotless" and your not the only one who rinses his reels off in the shower lol
GREAT REEL buying another soon

What size rod would you pair with this for inshore saltwater fishing?MM
1 Answer
Based on your fishing application I would recommend a St. Croix JIC70MHF Mojo Inshore Casting Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-jic70mhf-mojo-inshore-casting-rod.html This would pair great with your Daiwa Coastal baitcaster for various inshore saltwater fishing applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
