Built to dominate in blue water environments around the globe, the Daiwa Certate SW Spinning Reels are among the top contenders in the class of offshore spinners. Sharing many features with the 2020 Saltiga, the Certate SW is available in a run of sizing that covers the overwhelming majority of offshore spinning techniques. Among the features borrowed from the 20 Saltiga is Daiwa's signature Monocoque (MQ) Body and G1 Duralumin drive gear. This single piece body removes the requirement of a traditional side plate and screw system, replacing that with an engine plate that houses the incredibly large G1 Duralumin drive gear. This oversized drive gear provides incredible transmission of power for unmatched winding performance, while the MQ body offers never-before-seen strength and rigidity for a reel that can truly tackle anything. Despite its impressive strength and power, the Certate SW also boasts an incredibly lightweight and responsive construction thanks to Daiwa's Zaion Rotor design. Anglers can expect the smooth and effortless rotation that they have come to know from Daiwa spinning reels. Protecting this smooth and fluid operability is a Magsealed body and line roller. Combining Daiwa's famous Magseal technology with the MQ body means the Certate SW is supremely well sealed to the elements, allowing anglers to have tremendous confidence in their reels performance and longevity. Speaking of longevity, a multi-layer carbon drag delivers ten times increased drag durability. The new washer design combined with the aluminum radiation drag knob increases heat dissipation to improve drag performance under heavy load.

Crazy smooth and very light but also very durable reel
August 15, 2022
I’ve got the 10k version of this reel and I absolutely love it so far 👍 I’ve landed a little black tip shark maybe around 3 1/2 - 4ft. In length with no problem at all 😅 Was actually pretty stoked on that but reel is so beefed up that I’ve also lost a couple small size fish cause I worked them in a bit too quickly lol.. couldn’t even feel if the fish were on 😂
Pros
  • Very Light weight but also very durable 🤙🏾
Cons
  • NADA 🙅🏽‍♂️

Perhaps the smoothest reel around
June 18, 2022
I have had the 14k and 6k of this reel. I can't speak more highly about the smoothness of the reel. The drag has absolutely no start up inertia, it casts very well and is extremely light. My only complaint would be that for $600 I would have liked an aluminum drag knob on the 6k like there is on the 14.

IF you want a cheaper version Saltiga, Certate SW is the one
June 23, 2021
Pre ordered the 14000 model couple months ago and finally received it this June. This has the same body design and material as Saltiga, plus the new drag stack and drag housing which are also same as Saltiga. Only difference is the bearing count and missing some Mag seal bearing. Plus the rotor on Certate SW is Zion but Saltiga is Aluminum. Super high end spinning reel that should be able to handle big fish with fraction of price of Slatiga. Really happy Daiwa gets to this step!

Which size would be best for inshore/ near shore salt water fishing -

such as Drum/ Cobia/ amberjack / sheepshead / trigger fish ect??

Would it be the 5000 or 6000 or higher ?

1 Answer
Hi Marie, I would recommend a Daiwa CERTATESWG8000-H Certate SW Spinning Reel. However, since this is currently sold out I would also recommend a Daiwa SALTISTMQ8000H Saltist MQ Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-saltistmq8000h-saltist-mq-spinning-reel.html This would be strong enough for targeting drum, cobia, amberjack, sheepshead, and triggerfish. Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Do you need to back your braid with mono on this reel? Or can you put just straight braid? Noticed there isnt that rubber piece to hold the braid

1 Answer
Hi Nick, depending on what pound braid and how much braid you are looking to put on the back of your Daiwa Certate, We recommend using mono or electrical tape to back your reel. If you have any further questions, Please feel free to contact us! Tight lines!

I have a big question why the 5k is more heavy than 6k ? The size of the body is the same ?
1 Answer
Good question Kelvin. We get the specs straight from Daiwa. We do not have them in stock right now to check but, they are the same size body and my belief is the spool on the 6000 is deeper, so less metal and less weight.

So I have one of the 18000 size on the way. How will this pair up with the shimano grappler 8'2" hvy? bridge fishing for snook, tarpon and grouper using 65-80 lb braid.
1 Answer
Hi Scott, Based on the fishing application you described the Shimano GRPCS82H Grappler Type C Popping Rod would pair fine with the Daiwa CERTATESWG18000-H Certate SW Spinning Reel. However since the Shimano Grappler is sold out I would also recommend the Ocean Tackle International TS2 Popping Rods. Specifically model: OTI-TS27680120; TackleDirect Code: OTI-TS27680120. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-oti-ts27680120-ts2-popping-rod.html. This rod is very strong, has alot of backbone, but still sensitive enough to detect any small bites and would pair well with your Daiwa Certate 18000. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Is this reel fully seal????
1 Answer
The reel isn't fully sealed but does feature Daiwa's Mag Sealed body which offers the ultimate protection is delivered to the engine room of the reel with a magnetised oil seal located on the main shaft of the reel’s rotor shutting the door to the elements and unwanted intruders. Dust, water, and salt intrusion into the inner workings of a reel are a thing of the past with MagSeal.
